  1. Adam Smith (1723-1790) who was born in scotland is known as “father of economics”. Adam Smith is well-known for his views about how competition and normal self-interest are responsible for economic prosperity. Smith laid the intellectual framework that explained the free market and still holds true today. Adam Smith never married and had maintained a close relationship with his mother, with whom he lived after his return from France and who died six years before his own death. Smith followed the views of his guru, Francis Hutcheson of the University of Glasgow. Smith's first book was a work on "ethics and human nature" which is known as the theory of Moral Sentiments, written in 1759. Smith had devoted a considerable part of his income to numerous acts of charity. He was a great thinker.
