Who is the best CEO in history.

And how would I become the CEO of BHP if that was my life goal?

  1. I am much more familiar with U.S. corporate history, so, while there may be better examples worldwide, my choice for best CEO in history would be Alfred P. Sloan, CEO of General Motors from 1923 - 1946 (he remained Chairman until 1956). Under his leadership, GM became the largest, most profitable company in the world.

As for your possible goal of becoming CEO of BHP Billiton, you would likely have a long wait. The current CEO, Marius Kloppers, will turn 46 years old next week. His tenure may well hinge on the outcome of BHP's move to take over Rio Tinto, but I don't think I would bet against him. To start your way to the top, I think the best thing to do is to listen to each of the top executives through the link below.

If you were to aspire to the CEO position at a much smaller company, the suggestion of buying a stake large enough to launch a proxy fight for control of the board might be viable. Given BHP's current market cap. of about US $180 billion, that route would seem unlikely at best!

To become the CEO of BHP, buy enough stock to elect yourself as CEO.
