Sangakkara is an unusually brilliant batsman. Such batsmanship was rare on a test match field. He is on par with greats like Peter May, Everton Weekes, Herbert Sutcliffe and Ken Barrington. Just because he happens to be before us and batting in our times, we can not under-estimate Sangakkara. He is phenomenal. He is no more a keeper but is taken into the team as a batsman. I think that they should now try out that wicket keeper of Kolkata Knightriders (Wriddhiman Saha). The problem with Indian selectors is that they are concerned at the number of runs a keeper makes. The job of a keeper is to keep wickets brilliantly. You can't judge every keeper's batting with Gilchrist or Sangakkara both of whom are exceptions.

Dhoni is essentially an excellent keeper, the best that India has till now. In a ODI situation, he is on par with Adam Gilchrist. But in a test match situation, while his keeping is very high standard, his batting is very ordinary.

Perhaps, Dhoni wanted to help the Indian team to have an alternative to him (Karthik) in this series and hence he gave the chance by not touring Sri Lanka in the test series. But it proved to be a non-starter. Karthik and Parthiv are neither good behind the stumps nor in front of them.

Those who are voting for Dhoni need to check their heads.Sangakarra is better batsman and wicket-keeper than Dhoni.Sangakarra has piled 19 centuries in tests and many match-winning centuries in ODI.Dhoni after playing 113 odd ODI and 30 tests has 4 and 1 century respectively.As far as wicket-keeping is concerned,Dhoni is a bad keeper only better than his counterparts like Karthik and Patel.He has also dropped too many catches and stumpings.
