  1. street sense was amazing in the TB derby it looked like any given sat. was gonna pull away and then out of nowhere street sense got a speed burst and caught up to any given saturday and won by a nose

  2. The field has not been drawn yet.  Wait until afterward to see who is in.

Get a thumb down because the field is not drawn yet?  Wow

  3. Tie up Curlin with On Any Given Saturday - and you can not go wrong!

  4. By asking this question you are doing something called "touting". Given enough time and responses, you will be

given the name of every horse in the race! With a little homework, your opinion is just as good as someone else's.

Besides, the "best" horse doesn't always win, neither does

the favorite. Bet consevatively; save some $ for the Preakness & Belmont.

  5. I think Curlin is. He is undefeated in his 3 races, but he's won them by nice size margins, so I think that Curlin will win the Derby and maybe even start off where Barbaro had to quit, as in, yes, I think he has a shot for the Triple Crown.

    Can't wait till Saturday!!!!

  6. I still like Scat Daddy.  His sire and grandsire didn't do much with distance, but this colt shows that he can handle it.  If you look at the Florida Derby and watch him run past Notional to the finish line, you can see that even with another eighth or even quarter mile, Notional was not going to be able to catch him.

I also like Circular Quay although he gets a little lazy at the start...  watch the Breeders Juvenile...  he's 20 lengths off the lead for most of the race, but he closes like a freight train.  if he can stay in the race at the start, he might be able to break free and if he does, i don't think anyone can catch him.  but his early laziness is definately his downfall...  he lost all chance of winning his first race this year because he was in the back of the pack and had to avoid a falling rider...  and given his size in a 20 horse field, if there's any problems as he's passing through the pack, he might not be able to make it to the lead.  But his sire was the same way...  he was a big horse and a very late runner, but he won the Derby and Belmont...  so Circular can do the same.

Hard Spun's a great horse too...  he just over-powers the field when he runs.

Street Sense is quite a horse, but I've really become less of a believer in this horse recently...  he won the Juvenile and we know Juve winners can't win the Derby...  and if you look at his races this year he doesn't show the same power as he did in the Juve...  he hits the line with other horses...  I feel like the Blue Grass Field of Dominican, Teuflesberg, and Zanjero should not have been as challenging for him as it was.  And Any Given Saturday in the Tampa Bay Derby shouldn't have been that hard for him to beat.  And if you look at his Juve run, he had an ideal trip: he ran the rail all the way around.  He had to go around in the BlueGrass and I think it cost him a lot.  Given the 20 horse Derby field, he's unlikely to get that dream trip he got in the Juve.

Nobiz Like Shobiz...  it completely depends on whether this horse decides to focus on racing on Saturday.  Good run in the Holy Bull.  Very green in the Fountain of Youth.  Then they made this kinda desperate attempt to force him to focus by adding blinkers and cotton in his ears...  but it worked for the Wood, so maybe it'll work again in the Derby.  He focused well when he started racing, became unfocused last fall, focused well in the Holy Bull, really unfocused in the Fountain of Youth, then focused again in the Wood.  There's no knowing whether this focus will remain for the Derby...  the problem is, he's run a race with blinkers and cotton, so there's nothing more they can do to make him focus...  and the novelty of the blinkers and cotton may have forced him to focus for one race, but that doesn't mean he'll focus for the following races.

Curlin...  he might be the favorite with his extravagant wins...  he's undefeated and has overpowered the field in every race, winning by 12, 5, and 10 lengths.  the problem: he's raced 3 times, never as a 2 year old, and the best horses he's raced were grade 2 horses.  If you put any of the derby contenders in the 3 races this horse has won this year, I'd expect them to overpower the field too.  I just don't think his 3 races were a good measure of how he'll perform in the Derby.

Someone I forgot...  Tiago!  Remember his brother Giacomo?  This horse could pull an upset too.  Really strong performance in the Santa Anita Derby against a decent field of horses (Liquidity, Sam P, King of the Roxy...  all other Derby contenders).  Removing the blinkers really helped this horse.

The special story horse for the Derby is Storm in May...  I'm not sure this horse has actually done that much, but I like him for 2 reasons...  I always like the greys...  and he's blind in one eye...  the media will be all over that if he manages to win.

One horse I don't think belongs in this race at all: Imawildandcrazyguy.  He won a bit of money as a 2 year old and got mentioned as someone to watch for all of the races this year, but he hasn't done anything this year at all.  He was well beaten in the Florida Derby by Scat Daddy, Notional, Chelokee, and Stormello.  He ended up 22nd on the list and is set to get a spot in the Derby since Cobalt Blue and Xchanger have chosen not to run.  Chelokee looked to be a much better horse in the Florida Derby.  But I guess none of the other low-earning horses look any better.  And I suppose someone needs to come in last in the Derby.  Honestly...  I don't think this horse has any shot at winning...  I'd give him a quarter mile head start and I think the field would still catch him.

I've left out a lot of horses...  Great Hunter's a pretty good horse...  he kinda got screwed in the BlueGrass when his hole closed as they ran down the stretch...  but I'm not sure he would have won anyway.  Stormello: he likes to lead, but I don't think he can maintain his lead over a mile and a quarter...  he faded hard down the stretch in the Florida Derby, just as I predicted he would.  I wouldn't bet on him to win.  The others (Sam P, Bwana Bull, Cowtown Cat, Liquidity, Sedgefield, Teuflesberg) all have some small shot to win, but i highly doubt they can beat this field.

Scat Daddy's my pick...  and you'll get a good price for him since so many other people are starstruck by Curlin, Street Sense, and Nobiz.  But look out for Hard Spun and Circular Quay as well as Tiago.

  7. Im leaning towards Nobizlikeshobiz....you dont want to bet on the favorites, because the payouts wont be worth it.  Put a favorite or two in your trifecta though.  If you want to bet on a horse straight up to win, take Nobizlikeshobiz, b/c he will have a good payout with higher odds.  And hes not one of those longshots with little to no chance to win.
