  1. Are you asking about who named the country "Philippines"? or the first to EVER discover and set foot on the country?  If I remember my history correctly, besides the Aetas (local aborigines), it was the Indonesians - hence tagalog actually has some elements of Indonesian... then the Malays, then the Spanish ... but in interim there'd been traders from China as well, but it's not known if there were any large settlement from China at all until the Spanish period.

  2. The history of the Aeta continues to confound anthropologists and archaeologists. One theory suggests that the Aeta are the descendants of the original inhabitants of the Philippines, who, contrary to their sea-faring Austronesian neighbors, arrived through land bridges that linked the country with the Asian mainland about 30,000 years ago. Unlike many of their Austronesian counterparts, the Aetas have shown resistance to change. The attempts of the Spaniards to settle them in reducciones or reservations all throughout Spanish rule failed.

  3. Some Chinese traders over a thousand years ago.

  4. Jose Rizal

  5. magellan and his army

  6. The Spanish colony named the Philippines, after King Philip II (King of Spain).

  7. i think it was Ferdinand Magellan

  8. You cannot actually say who exactly discovered the Philippines because the Philippines has existed even before the expedition Magellan and the other Spaniards but one reason that they say that the Spanish discovered the country is because the only time when we were only recognized as a country by other nations is when we were placed under the Spanish rule and for the fact that we only have records starting from the 16th century.

  9. Ferdinand Magelan named the country after King Philip II of Spain.

  10. The  country Philippines has long been  discovered before the time of Magellan. When Magellan and his crew came,  the land (which is now known as Philippines) was already inhabited by people. It was just  unfortunate that nobody keep records  of what has been before  1521, on that part of the globe. Unlike Antonio Piggaffeta, who recorded everything onto  his books. Now, its in history, Magellan discovered Philippines.
