Or does England even have First Ministers akin to Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond?

I'm not looking for Gordon Brown.

  1. England doesn't currently have a devolved English parliament, so no First Minister of England as of yet.

And Salmond has limited powers, where Westminster (London / Labour) pulls much of the strings.

  2. There is No First Minster for England as it does not have a devolved assembly / parliament like Scotland, Wales, and N. Ireland has.

I dear say the closest thing to it would be that of Boris Johnston for London Mayor, and the London Assembly, though it really isn't.

England has however had a Chance to vote for type of Devolution, with a referendum in north England, yet it was rejected at almost 80%.   Could be down to the fact that it would grant only half of England devolution, almost splitting it up?  Though other factors I am sure played a greater role.  for example John Prescott said "I was surprised by the clear majority and I think there was a number of reasons for that - and claims of more politicians and greater council tax has an effect..."

The Liberal Democrats suggested, that it was down to the lack of scope of the regional assembly, that most of the work was all ready down in the councils.

Perhaps not a referendum on English Devolution, but if mirrored, it would appear that in 2004 England was against it.  If greater devolotuon was offerd to the whole country would the response be different, maybe so?
