  1. Broadcom and Infineon make the Hammerhead II GPS receiver chip in the iPhone 3G.  As for mapping, nobody has come along yet.  TomTom supposedly has a turn-by-turn product in the works but it hasn't been released yet.  At the moment, your location will show up on Google Maps.
