  1. John Colemon

-He played 98 games and kicked 537 goals.

-He has a medal named after him. (Colemon medal)

-There is even a Statue of Coleman outside the library in Hastings, Victoria, the town where it all began.

-He is a legend of the game.

  2. Without doubt the honour would have to go to Gary Ablett Snr!

    The man was incredible!!!

  3. STRAUNCHIE!

  4. Mark "Jacko" Jackson.

  5. I have to agree with Dirtyold and Jm61, fabulous PHIL CARMAN, was a most brilliant high mark and a mercurial player at either full forward, CHF, centre or RR .  In his first season he played only "13 games" after breaking his foot in an interstate game at Waverley, and missed the Brownlow Medal by 3 votes.   Dermott Brereton has often claimed Carman as his childhood idol.   Carman was often considered "hot headed" but intimidation was the cause, mostly in games against Carlton, and again while playing for Essendon when a boundary umpire invaded his personal space, standing on his foot ,moving  close enough to kiss,(may have been g*y) just to tell him, he was being reported for striking Sidebottom of the saints.    Carman leaned forward and told the umpire to get out of his face, and was then charged for a head butt . All up he was rubbed out for 20 weeks after the game, which in real terms was a total disgrace.     Carman was the first player to  introduce the banna kick to the VFL in 1975, he was simply excitement plus.   Highlights of his brilliance can be seen on copies of "sensational seventies" and "The electrifying 80's" tapes or DVD...you wont want to miss it  !

  6. My "best ever" team.

Backs -  Ayres   A. McIntosh   Barassi

    H/Backs - Doull   Jackovich    McKenna

Centres - Flower  Greg Williams  Greig

    H/For. - M. Harvey  Carey   Brereton

    For. - S. Madden  Lockett   L. Matthews

Ruck - Polly Farmer  Tuck   Bunton (Snr)

Int. - Kevin Murray  A.Jarman  Dunstall  Bartlett

  7. Haydn Bunton, Sr.

    * the first and one of only four players to win three Brownlow Medals, for the "best and fairest" player in the Victorian Football League (VFL): 1931, 1932 and 1935

    * won a Brownlow in his first season

    * the first and one of only five players to win three Sandover Medals in the Western Australian National Football League (WANFL) — an award almost as prestigious as the Brownlow at the time — 1938, 1939 and 1941

    * the only player to have received three Brownlows and three Sandovers

    * an inaugural Legend of the Australian Football Hall of Fame

  8. warrick capper

  9. im a made collingwood supporter so buckley though hird was amazing

  10. Gary Ablett Snr/Jnr

    Tony Lockett

    Tony Modra

    James Hird

    Glenn Archer

    Darren Jarman

    Ben Cousins

    many more

  11. It's too hard to choose, but I'm going to go with Syd and Gordon Coventry.

  12. I would have to say either Leigh Matthews or Wayne Carey. If you are in Melbourne, this Saturday they're revealing the greatest ever in The Age.

  13. Its a hard one!? Both the Abletts were good.

apparently Bob skilton and ron barassi were really great (GO SWANS!!!).

The best player now would have to be judd. I hate the eagles and carlton but he is good!

  14. Without a doubt Garry Ablett, the man was brilliant.

I grew up idolising him, James Hird was awesome when in form too, its difficult to decide between the two!!!

  15. Darren Millane

  16. STRAUGHANIE!!!!!

  17. Wikkedred: You're an idiot. Tony Modra was injured in the 97 grandfinal and couldnt even play

tough question, but from what i've seen i would give it to Gary Ablett Snr. if his son keeps up what he's doing, he'll undoubtably go down as one of the greats

  18. Keith Grieg was pretty good but Quandry is right you can't just pick one I would put Polly Farmer up there as well but thats just two of many great players.

  19. had the honour of playing against Michael Voss in under 15s (we were both 12, I was making up the numbers, he was starring amongst kids who were on the other side of puberty).

I also had the honour of playing against Hird in the under 19s in Canberra, again, nobody could touch him, just hung in the air at centre half forward and grabbed everything and kicked a bag.

Those 2 are right up there particulalry Vossy, just for shear guts and hardness at the ball, even with debilitating injuries such as recovering broken leg.  I think that Chris Judd has to be number one though, he is untouchable and has the balance and poise of a gazelle or a ferrari or whatever other cliche you can come up with.

  20. Alister Lynch!!!!!!!!!

  21. Their could only be one star 'GARY ABLETT SNR" Legend Status.

  22. He is a disgrace with the drugs & his addiction, yet on the field it was a different story. Ben Cousins is one of the greatest players to play the game, he would sneak in goals, dodge tackles & handball with efficency.

  23. Wayne Carey

    5 Years Chris Judd

But Hird was my favourite player ever he was just so good to watch and one of the better captains ever

  24. **Gary Ablett Snr**

  25. You just can't pick one.  Each possie has a different style and requirement.  And I can only go with my lifetime.

Best forward - between Dunstall and Ablett senior (and yeah I've thought of Moore and Blight etc) ... they were golden days when both of them were in form.

Half Forward - there's heaps of good ones - I'd hate to say Carey - he coulda been but wasn't.  Chris Grant or Adam Goodes if we call him in that possie.

Midfielder - tough but Harvey the Saint is complete.  There's been a lot of good ones in my life but he's the best I've seen.  Perhaps Libba as runner up ... dirty little shite he was

Half Back - between Doull and Jakovich

Full Back - Andrews (tough mongrel), Silvagni, Scarlett

Ruck - Tucky.  Never seen one like him he seemed to invent the term "mobile ruckman"

Best of them ..... Doull - who ever thought of putting a doormat at half back but nothing seemed to get past him.

  26. There are many great footballers, so it's hard to name just one.

    Here's a few though:

    1920's - Gordon Coventry

    1930's - d**k Reynolds

    1940's - John Coleman

    1950's - Ted Whitten

    1960's - Bob Skilton

    1970's - Garry Dempsey

1980's - Tony Lockett, Jason Dunstall, Gary Ablett Sr or Barry Round

    1990's - Robert Harvey

2000's - Adam Goodes, Gary Ablett Jr or Chris Judd

  27. Tony Modra in the 1997 premiership i think it was he kicked 13 or 14 goals never seen it done again

  28. agree ^^^

ben cousins is amazing. always has been!

  29. Phil Carmen could have been, but done some silly things in his career,  runner up in a brownlow even though out with a broken leg for a few weeks.

  30. Darren Jarman,Wayne carey,

  31. Tony Locket or Gary Ablett sr.
