I'd honestly have to say Michael Phelps. I actually had never knew he was a great swimmer, that I can remember. He won eight gold medals and he was an amazingly fast olympic swimmer. I'm glad I was able to see him at his best.

Jason lezak, i had never heard of him and i was getting mad at him as i watched the 4x100m freestyle cuz i thought he was gonna mess up michael phelps record but the dude came through big time. also i would say michael phelps and usain bolt but i knew of them b4 the olympics. oh and nastia liukin, everyone here in the US was talkin about shawn johnson but liukin did amazing

Shawn Johnson.  Gymnastics all around...Silver Medal.  For someone so young, 16, she has exhibited grace far beyond her age.  And that smile!!!!!!

i have to say michael phelps cuz well  didnt know who he was on the commercials and like that at&t one im like who the heck iz micheal phelps but he totally blew my mind when he won evey single race i mean 8 gold out of 8 races!!!!!!!!!! geez

Usain Bolt for sure. Never seen someone won a 100M final so easily. Unfortunately, he is not an American and  he (and other Jamaican runners)  owned Amercian in their traditional events, so it is unlikely he will be an Amercian favorite. You can see there are lame questions like ‘Do you think any 100M runners use illegal drugs” etc suddenly popped up after 100M male and female finals.
