There will never be one "best" player...hockey players come in many different flavors.  Offensive defenseman (Bobby Orr), Defensive defenseman (Lidstrom/Chelios/Coffey/ Bourque), Goal Scorer (Lemiux/Ovechkin/Jagr/Howe/ Makita/Gretzky/Esposito/Orr/ etc.), Playmaker (Gretzky/Jagr/Howe/Orr/Lemiux)...or the player who makes everyone else on the ice better...Gretzky, Howe and Orr are the best examples of this, and I think with a little more time and experience Crosby will get there as well.

  12. some people baffle me. SIDNEY CROSBY IS NOT THE BEST PLAYER IN THE NHL!!!!!!!!! in the NHL this years it was probably ovechkin or zetterberg. If you wanna talk all time.. you would have to say the Great one, or howe.

  18. The greatest of all time was Gordie Howe. Gretzky, Messier, Lemeiux, Crosby, and Ovechkin have nothing on Mr. Hockey.

    The best player currently in the league is Lidstrom.

  19. Best is way too general. Crosby, Malkin and Ovechkin are all great offensive players, Lidstrom, Gonchar, Zubov are all great defensive players. But all around players that can do it all, Datsyuk and/or Zetterberg are the best in the NHL.
