  1. My favourite is Mats Naslund, but am going with Borje Salming .. which contradicts my being a die-hard fan of the Canadiens and Team Finland, but his play was out of this world. I would like to give honourarable mention + encourage you to do the same to Pelle Lindbergh, we'll never know what he might have accomplished ..

  2. Peter Forsberg / Nick Lidstrom

  3. the stanley cup was handed to the best swede ever this june. nicklas lidstrom.

    honorable mention to borje salming.

  4. Sure Borje Salming was an incredible hockey player.  Every Swedish born player in the NHL today knows what he did that helped make their current situation possible.  But while he did much for the game I just can't put his game above Lidstroms game.  While I'm sure Nick would tell you that Salming was probably an influence on him and patterned his game after Salming's he improved on it too.  I think Salming spent half his career in the penalty box.  The best players are even better when they are on the ice and not in the box.  Hats off to those that picked Salming but my vote goes to Lidstom.

  5. Not even close, Lidstrom.

IMO is a top 3 defenseman ever.

  6. No doubt about it the one and only Nick Lidstrom #5 on the Red Wings.  Lets go Red Wings  Hockeytown is his home  Thank You Wings for a good year!  Stanleys back!

  7. Forsberg

    Lidstrom

    Sundin

    Naslund

    Naslund

    Salming

Difficult to single out just one, but i say Forsberg.

  8. like everybody knows this is no contest.. lidstrom is by far the best to ever play not only being a swede but prob the best defencemen ever..  in the top 3 at least. he was handed the cup in june for a reason

  9. Nicklaus Lidstrom

  10. And the first shall be best. BJ (the King) Salming was by far the best Swede to ever play the game. He came to the NHL when the term chicken Swede was used without question. He took all the c**p that was handed out by the players in the league at the time.

He changed the mindset of North Americans on whether the Swedes could play the game at the intensity that was necessary to play in the NHL.

To quote players that played with him, just to see the c**p that he put up with game in game out with cheap shots to his body was amazing. If he had been black instead of Swede. Number 21 would have been retired league wide.
