BAZE...I DON'T CARE IF HE RIDES IN DEEP MEXICO.....WHEN YOU WIN 400 RACES YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT, AND WINS AT A 30 PERCENT WIN CLIP FOR YOUR CAREER, GIVE HIM HIS CREDIT....HIS COUSIN MIKE CAN'T EVEN HOLD HIS WHIP, IT IS SAD THAT HE NEVER HAD A CHANCE DOWN SOUTH AT SANTA ANITA, HOLLYWOOD, AND DEL MAR, WHEN HE CAME DOWN HERE WE HAD A SOLID JOCKEY COLONY, AND HE WAS PUT ON HORSES WITH ODDS OF ALMOST 20-1 EACH AND EVERY-TIME.....

as someone from maryland I've seen alot of edgar and will say he is in the top 15 as a jockey( he's anice guy but some of you are getting a little carried away saying he is a incredible human being we all have are secrets some are just more known than others). Gomez is defintely the most improved rider, Dominques is an up and comer and will in a short time be the best, johnny v is the best right now because he makes the fewest mistakes  and rides the best horses. russel baze is incredible just like mario pino because of the longjevity of their careers.

Right now I'm saying it's Garrett Gomez, he is making very few mistakes these days.  My knock on Prado (and I know it's weak, but) is he has had quite a few break through the gate in big races in the past year, I know it's not all his fault, but it's odd how many times it's happened and if are picking the best I think that has to be taken into account.  That being said I also think Gomez is flat out a better rider right now than Prado.  John Velazquez is up there too but I don't think he's quite at the level of Gomez and Prado right now.

Edgar Prado, a true gentleman and goes above and beyond for Charity. He donated Barbaro's saddle to the Disabled Jockey Fund, and he has worked tirelessly for the backstretch workers at Belmont (Anna's House). He bends over backwards to autograph everything for every child that asks.

That's not even touching on how he handles horses! This guy has respect for each and every horse he rides, from claimers to million dollar babies. And man can he ride!!!!!

I must echo Go4Gin's response. Edgar Prado is truly the best; not only for the way he rides and understands his horses, but for the incredible human being he is. He is a man who could be very mad at this country, his mother's visa request was rejected (she needed medical treatment) initially, and was finally approved 3 days AFTER she died. But he isn't; he loves everyone and understands.

(But for those intersted soley in win total, that would be Russell Baze with over 9531 wins.)
