Trinidad is not a middleweight, neither was De la Hoya. This question isn't meant to be a shot at Bernard Hopkins.

  1. I would agree with blogbaba...and as a close second, probably Keith Holmes.

Winky, DLH, Trinidad, were never ever really Middleweights. They floated up there to fight him and see the error in their ways.

  2. Felix trinidad but you can argue he was a natural welterweight like de la hoya, not many great middleweights he beat but he has a impressive names on his resume, Ko de la hoya, KO trinidad, W Winky Wright, and a win against antonio tarver but at middleweight there was nobody there that was really good other than the guys that came up and fought at it like trinidad and de la hoya, but he was one of the best middleweights ever.

  4. I think you are splitting hairs when you say those great fighters he beat weren't "true middle weights." He beat them at middle weight, for the middle weight world title. He fought Trinidad for the undisputed middle weight championship of the world, and the majority of people thought Trinidad was going to win. Great fighters go up in class to fight each other all the time. It isn't at all uncommon at those weight classes for fighters to have their most legacy defining fights against fighters who are coming up or going down to meet them. Hopkins beat everybody that got put in front of him for years, and then he also beat the other best pound for pound guys.

People routinely call Sugar Ray Robinson the greatest middle weight of all time, and I'm pretty sure he started fighting pro at light weight. Winky started at junior middle weight, which isn't even a traditional weight class, just one the promoters made up so they could have more championship fights.

I wish he could have fought Toney at some point. I wish he could have gotten a rematch with Jones, after he had developed into a more well rounded fighter than he was during their first fight. In my book, Hopkins is very underrated by a lot of boxing fans.

  5. My guess would be John David Jackson.

  6. Felix Trinidad. Trinidad had destroyed William Joppy in his previous fight and Vegas actullay had Hopkins as the Underdog.

  7. Trinidad
