  1. I agree with you Mike, Zetterberg, and then Datsyuk, by a small margin too. They both are amazing, play on the power-play and kill, score, defend, hit, and are leaders. It's amazing what they can do. I believe it was Brett Lebda who said "Zetterberg is the best hockey player is the world", not just the NHL.

Just to remind people, remeber the play Zetterberg made on Crosby on that like 130 five on three for the Pens in the finals?! Dang that was amazing defence, and he also had a shot on that kill!

  2. Zetterberg or Alfredsson

  3. Crosby, Zetterburg, or from my fave team (the Hawks), Toews

  4. i would say the best all around player in the league is alexander ovechkin. i'll admit that, as a rangers fan, i don't get to see much of zetterberg, but from what i have seen ovechkin is the best all around player in the nhl.

nobody questions his scoring ability. nobody questions his hustle (backchecking, ect.). there is some talk of him being selfish, but he carried his team into the playoffs last year so does anybody really blame him? with backstrom and semin turning into very strong offensive players themselves, that selfishness could diminish as soon as next season anyway.

he didn't just lead the league in goals, he led the league in points, which takes assists too. his 47 assists is certainly not the best, but it's far from pathetic and its not like his selfishness is a plague.

the deciding factors to me that make him the best all around player in the nhl right now:

    1. 65 goals is nothing short of incredible in today's era

    2. he was +28 on a team that was +11. (zetterberg was +30, but his team was +73)

    3. he was 9th in the league in hits.

    4. he was 9th in the league in takeaways

    5. he was 3rd in the league (amoung offensive players behind martin st. louis and brad richards) in time on ice per game

top 10 in goals (1), points (1), +/- (7), hits (9), takeaways (9), and time on the ice (3) warrants the best all around player in the game to me.

  5. Iginla!!

He hits, fights, defends, scores he's not great but hes good in every aspect I just mentioned.

  6. zetterberg, bec. he can play great defense too

  7. I include fighting in my "all-around" definition, so I will say Iginla.

  8. Datsyuk

  9. I would honestly have to say those two as well, or Nicklas Lidstrom.  I'm not just a homer, but you saw what happened to the league's "best offense" in the finals.  4-0 and 3-0 shutouts to start the series?  Are you serious?  Crosby is great offensively but has limited defensive skills and he has yet to develop a mature attitude.  He seems discontent when he isn't handed everything he was hyped up to receive.  I think he is great, but not worth the praise that most give him.  Alexander Ovechkin is an obvious choice, but I think he is a bit selfish.  I'm not doubting his character because I'm still not sure if I like him or hate him, but I think he could stand to share the puck more.  Yes, he scores a ton, but he shoots more than anyone in the league (although Zetterberg wasn't far behind this season, percentage wise).  Hossa is another worthy candidate as he is solid on defense and clearly solid on offense.  Still not sure how well he works with teams, we will soon see.

Two semi-underrated players that I think are still among the best all around in the NHL would have to be Jerome Iginla and Joe Thornton.

  10. ovechkin

  11. my fav player is briere

but the best all round in the league would have to be ovechkin or zetterberg

  12. Zetterberg for sure hes a scoring threat and he also gets back and plays amazing defense for example the famous conn smyth shift lol

  13. chris ozgoode. yay!!!! he went 9-0 in the playoffs (until he lost). and because he adjusted his goalie style, i'm sure that he could adjust to being an awesome skater, enforcer, and scoring threat.

    go red wings! yay!!!!

and he doesn't need one of those tough, scorer types to stand up for him, like iginla. ozgoode can fight his own battles. did you see what he did to ribeiro in the WCF? and i forgot the pitt player where he did something similar. he's the total package

  14. Ovechkin from WA
