  1. you are!

  2. Toss a coin ... Cobb or Mays

  3. Honus Wagner!!!!

  4. in my lifetime id have to say king griffey jr

  5. Ruth, Mantle, Ashburn, and Aaron. are the most elite and i think they all deserve the title as best baseball player.

  6. babe ruth

  7. Big Willie Mays.

  8. Pete Rose.... its a shame he is not allowed in the hall of fame. he leads the MLB all time in hits, at bats and in games played and not to mention 2 gold gloves, 3 world series MVP's, and 17 all star appearances i'd say he is the one of the greatest if not the greatest player in MLB history

  9. Ruth.

    Hit.

    Hit with power.

    Phenomenal plate discipline.

Good fielder and decent runner in his younger days (he wasn't always the rotund slugger seen in the few extant film clips).

And -- the trump card -- one helluva pitcher.

No one in history matches that total package.

Why does this continue getting asked? There's room to debate who is second or third or fourth best or who's in the top ten, but Ruth has the number one slot locked up for the foreseeable future.

  10. Tyrus Raymond "Ty" Cobb

  11. Joe DiMaggio

  12. Yoggi Beara

    Best catcher ever

(Geovany Soto in a close second)

  13. Babe Ruth - he changed the game from an inside game to the game as we know it today. He brought the game back form the Black Sox scandal and became the most recognized athlete on the planet. His accomplishments as a pitcher were incredible, his life time E.R.A. was 2.28 Aside from his incredible home run total of 714 which is now 3rd all time he is 1st in slugging % .690 2nd in R.B.I.'s with 2,217, 2nd in on base % .474

  14. Willie Mays and Babe of course

  15. Pitcher - Tom Seaver

    Catcher - Yogi Berra

    First - Lou Gehrig

    Second - Ryne Sandberg

    Third - Ron Santo

    Shortstop - Ernie Banks

Outfielders - Billy Willams, Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle

Overall - In my opinion I think Lou Gehrig deserves the award with .340 BA, 1,995 RBIs, 7x All Star, 6x World Series Champion.

  16. my idea is pete rose he did it all.look up his stats.and golden gloves, steals etc.

  17. 1. ME

    2. Arod

    3. Babe

  18. Babe Ruth - he would have been a Hall of Famer as a pitcher, but instead became the greatest power hitter and transformed the game. While a case can be made offensively for others such as Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, etc., they would never have been a HOF pitcher...advantage, Ruth. And conversely, Cy Young, Walter Johnson, Bob Gibson et al could never hit like Ruth. The only six tool player.

Note: I dislike the Yankees, but you have to give credit where it's due.

  19. Babe Ruth

The Bambino could hit both for power- more than 700 home runs- and average - he batted above .300 for most of his career.

And early in his career he was a successful pitcher, winning more than 20 games in several seasons.

  20. Hammerin' Hank Aaron.  Why doesn't he get more recognition as one of the best if not THE best.

    2nd career HR*

    1st career RBI

    1st career extra base hits

    .305 career BA

    3rd career hits

    17 consecutive yrs w/150+ hits

    * 1st if you don't accept Baroid as HR king

  21. Cy Young 511 wins as a pitcher
