I would say Pete Rose as a player.  Not as a player you should want nothing to do with him, but he HONESTLY cared and ALWAYS gave EVERYTHING he had.  Most of the "greats" are naturally great, but never put in the work to get everything they can from that talent.  Pete Rose is an example of someone who got everything he could out what he had.

    He has been hurt this year but I would say that Arizona's Eric Byrnes is the best example of a Rose type player today, though please do not mistake that as me saying he is the best player now.  I don't mean that, just saying he is the one I respect the most.

  6. Old I would have to say Ty Cobb...not because he put up the stats by any means but because of his desire to play...Honus Wagner should get a nod too. Today...probably Albert Pujols or Alex Rodriguez. Right now...C.C. Sabathia.

It's a hard question to answer...every time I hear this question, I stumble between Cy Young and Babe Ruth.  Nobody was more legendary than Babe Ruth, and maybe nobody was more dominant in his prime (plus, if he had kept pitching, he might have won 200 or 300 games and hit just as many homers...he just wouldn't have hit 714).

    But Cy Young...511 is never going to be touched again.  It's simply not possible.  I don't know if anyone else other than Trevor Hoffman will ever get to 511 saves, let alone 511 wins.
