  1. In the past=fitzy,he had the right attitude. He is my favorite All Black of all time. His duals with Phil Kearns were classics! kearns  was good too. They always had crafty smiles for one another!                     Present,= mcaw ,he is coming of age.He has real potential to be the best ever.We will see.

  2. john smit.

but tana was definitely the best.

  3. David Kirk was only captain because Andy Dalton was injured. Current players Richie but cant compeer to old players like Fitzy, Eels,Johnson,Far-jones,Buck

  4. Mourie played te same position as McCaw.  He was a great player, though not in the McCaw category, but I suspect he was by far a better captain

  5. RICHIE!

    lol

  6. wayne 'bring back the buck shelford

    sean fitzpatrick

    george gregan

*david kirk may have been captain for the 1st world cup final but it took another captain to get them through all the other matches to reach that final. captain for 1 winning world cup final doesn't make you a good captain.

  7. sean fitzpatrick, tana umanga, mortlock, Martin Johnson

if I had to choose one I would say fitzy

  8. Richie McCaw would get my vote if we were picking the best player who also happens to be captain.  He is an awesome player as evident by the match last weekend, but the improvement in NZ's play was not due to his leadership but rather due to his playing abilities.

John Smit gets my vote.  He's not the best hooker in the world, possibly not even the best hooker in South Aftica, but the difference in the playing of the Boks when he's playing and when he isn't is like night and day.  When he's on the pitch he brings a level of calmness with him and when the chips are down get the most out of his players.

  9. im a kiwi, forgive me father for saying this but John eels, he could captain, kick, and he was a lock and always play good rugby.

  10. sean fitzpatrick - He had it all over the opposition specially the aussies.

  11. really only two that i can think of that could be called the 'best" captain in the world. a)John Smit of the Springboks, he did just win a WC and his club team (Sharks) have been one of the best in Super 14 and Currie Cup. When he is not on the field you can see it in the performance of the Boks. they are just not the same. b) Sean Fitzpatrick, All Blacks. he never won a WC (as captain), but he did play on the 87 winning side and captained the 95 team that reached the finals. he was also the captain of the 96 AB team that was the first AB side to ever win a series against SA in SA. 92 caps, 51 as captain. 40 wins/ 10 loses 1 draw.. not bad.

  12. As the game of rugby has evolved over the years, with rule changes, professional players and playing styles, the All Blacks have had Captains to suit the game at those times.  It is very hard to pin point one particular Captain. At the end of the day they get the title for leadership and performance.  Ritchie McCaw is doing a good job of leading the national team.

  13. you all forget about david kirk, richie is no doubt awesome but david led us to our one and only world cup!!!!!!!

  14. Tana was and McCaw now.

  15. Tana was by far the best,   the word mana was practically invented for him!

  16. Buck Shelford, The only all black captain never to lose a game! A shame he was replaced when it was time for the world cup. Also you still see signs in the stands saying "BRING BACK BUCK"

  17. who is the best..not who was the best...Richie by far.

Last week he wasnt there..yesterday he was...say no more

  18. Tana Umaga and George Gregan,,....

  19. b4 Buck now McCaw

I absolutely agree with pr05pect including all the Richie Supporters

  20. mccaw   proved that yesterday

  21. Richie Mccaw

  22. Stirling Mortlock hands down

  23. Richie - Captain Fantastic - McCaw

  24. Of the current captains it must be John Smit.World cup winning captain. To those idiots that said McCaw.Remember last year he was the worst captain according to the Kiwi's themselves.Of the previous ones probably Nick Farr-Jones

  25. McCaw

  26. Well done to the boys and the coaching staff although it does not excuse the at times absurd selections and brainless tactics leading up to this. It has taken the supposed "3 wise men" 7 tests to realise that Rodney is a no 8, kaino a no 6 and that Ellis is average. Now lets just put a wing on the wing and we are all set! How can a couch potato like me see this but they can't. Good luck to them but as long as these guys remain in charge, there will remain a dark undercurrent festering in NZ rugby - this lot have inflicted too much damage to be forgotten no matter the results from here on in - and by the way, I really like Graham Henry but he and his mates at the NZRFU boo booed big time by not appointing someone new to the job this year. If the players manage to regain some of the lost pride in the next year or so it will be them not Henry or the idiots at the NZRFU who we will be cheering. go the blacks!!!

  27. JOHN SMITH!!!!! WORLD CUP WINNING CAPTAIN!!!

  28. Currently.....Ritchie and I would place Mortlock up there with him as well. Smit is a dirty cheating mongrel.

Past....Tana, Fitzy, Buck, Martin Johnston and John Eales. The past world cup captain for Los Pumas was great as well. I would never choose a yarpie captain in the same breath as those mentioned before.

  29. Can't go past Richie McCaw!!!!

  30. richie mccaw and Tana Umaga

  31. James T. Kirk
