I think as of now G Smith and ponting. M.S.Dhoni is also good. Sourav was gr8 and Dravid was gr8 too........only thing wrong with dravid's tenure as captain was that he didn't get enough back up and encouragement. ........otherwise even Shane Warne his skills in IPL were gr8

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I thought Michael Vaughan was a pretty incredible captain.

It's not often you could say that he got it completely wrong and, when you look at his record, it's pretty impressive. He was always willing to try something strange or unusual but his batting has let him down seriously.

Other than that, I would have to say Ponting is pretty talented - more apparent in 20/20 and one-day matches with the choice of fielding positions and powerplays - he ALWAYS seems to get that right. I'd have to go with Ponting for best current captain - you can't argue with the statistics and I think that he has really motivated that team off the field as well.
