Walter Hammond.

He held the record for the most career runs in Tests from 29th June 1937 to 27th November 1970. This is the longest time anyone has held the record.

Ian Botham was great BUT in my opinion Fred Trueman and Wally Hammond were better.

Trueman was one of the greatest bowlers in the history of the game he was first to 300 wickets and he averaged 21.76 with the ball in tests and 18 in first class cricket, and Hammond was one of the most talented batsmen that has ever lived with an average near 60 in test matches

Wilfred Rhodes. Started his Test career ar a number 11. Within 8 years he was opening the innings. Still holds two partnership records for England, for the highest first wicket and tenth wicket partnerships against Australia.

In his first class career he scored 39,969 runs at 30.81, and took 4,204 wickets at 16.72!

A truly astonishing record.
