Not sure. But my personal old favourite was, and still is Suraya Bonaly! ^_^

I don't think you can just go by the most recent world championships. Skaters have good days and bad days, and you need to look at their whole record.

In my opinion the best male figure skater in the world is Stephane Lambiel. He is two time world champion, grand prix champion, and has landed quads quite consistently - so it's clear that the jumps are there. He is widely considered the best spinner in the world. Also, his footwork is exciting, engaging, and masterfully executed.

The best woman figure skater? More up for debate, to me. Sasha Cohen is my favorite, because her skating is beautiful, but there are other women who are much more consistent.

In my opinion I think Kimmie Meisner is the best. She is really good especially for her age. She is my favorite skater.
