I want to know who is the best goaltender in the NHL right now? Is it Broduer, Luongo, Dipietro, Legace, the Bulin Wall Khabibulin, or even a rookie goalie coming into the NHL? A goalie has .5 of a second to react to the puck, has to be focused, and has to have strong legs. I want to know who is the best reactor, is the most focused, and has the strongest body muscles in the NHL for goalies?

  1. The five best goaltenders today are...

Evgeni Nabokov, Martin Brodeur, Henrik Lundqvist, Roberto Luongo and Marc Andre Fleury.

  2. luongo, plays for a very average team but he keeps them in it, most goalies mentioned above have pretty great teams

  3. i am going out thr limp and say Nabby

Brodeur is alittle older and not as good as he used to (still put up good number however)

Luongo is right up there but feel his team  comes factor

DP- overpaid, inconsistant and somewhat injury prone (if he get on a streak he is a top notch goalie)

Legace and Bulin hasnt done much remarkable lately to get consideration.

Osgood should be consideration the way he has played lately.

  4. Where are all these crazy names coming from?  Fleury, Osgood, Khabibulin (SP?), Legacy, Dipietro?  Its Brodeur, plain and simple.  You could make half an argument for Luongo.  Guys like Giguere, Turco, Nabokov, Lundqvist, and Kipper would be next.  Then the rest of the league.

  5. For now its Broduer (sadly) but give my man Lundqvist 1-2 more years and h**l be the best since richter

  6. That's a good question to start a verbal war with!!

How do you judge the best?.........

Wins his team the Stanley Cup?

    Best save percentage?

    Best goals against average?

    Most spectacular saves?

First the goalie who wins the Stanley Cup has a pretty good supporting cast around him...so he might not have done it all by himself.....That does not mean he is not a great goalie...but that he has some help that others might not have

Best Save percentage....this is a pretty good indicator, but might be swayed by the style of defense his team plays.

Goals against average....good teams don't give up many goals, so again it can be misguiding.

Specatacular Saves.....does he make them because he is a great goalie, or because he was caught out of position?  You might end up judging against a goalie who is just fundamentally very sound, ( i.e. Nick Lidstrom never makes spectacular plays, but wins the Norris every year because he is always in the proper position)

So I guess you have to balance them out....

Osgood won the Cup...picking up a down team, when he replaced Dom!

    Save percentage

    Giguere.922

    Fleury .921

    Brodeur .920

    Luongo  .917

    Osgood .914

    Turco   .909

    Khabibulin .908

    Goals Against

    Osgood   2.09

    Giguere    2.12

    Brodeur    2.17

    Turco        2.31

    Fleury       2.33

    Luongo    2.38

    Khabibulin  2.63

All are capable of making spectacular saves...and I tend to think that some make more than others, because they are caught out of possition too often..so I won't try to judge them on that.

Statistics wise...Giguere gets the nod....but how many times is his name on the Stanley Cup??  In the end, goaltending is about winning games!  Only two of these goalies has his name on the Cup Three times...and so I will have to list them as my top two

    1. Brodeur

    2. Osgood....although he should be hailed as a King for posting outstanding numbers of .910 save percentage and winning 32 games for an aweful Islanders team!

    3. Giguere

    4. Fluery....if he could just learn how to step onto the ice instead of falling flat on his face!!!  He is young and will climb on this list with experience

5.The rest don't matter, they need a lot of help to win the Cup!

  7. chris osgood

  8. I'd have to say Luongo! Some of these other goalies are only good because they are on good teams especially Osgood! He's good on the best team in the league but when he's on a bad team (Islanders) he was horrible!

  9. marc andre fleury....he proved himself in the playoffs this year

  10. Evgeni Nabokov and Martin Brodeur.

  11. Martin Brodeur

  12. without a doubt its Henrik Lundqvist... ok thumb me down, but 3 years in the league over 30wins in each year, 3 time vezina finalist, 10 shutouts this year.  Olympic Gold Medalist.

    CAREER SAVE PERCENTAGE

    1.  Lundqvist....(.917sv %)

    2.  Brodeur.......(.913 sv%)

    3.  Luongo........(.919 sv%)

    4.  Nabokov......(.911 sv %)

    5.  Giguere........(.915 sv %)

    6.  Backstrom...(.923 sv%)

    7.  Vokoun........(.914 sv%)

  13. Brodeur

  14. From the end of last season.....all time.....

I think Hasek was possibly the best goalie of all time.   During his peak - in the late 1990's - he was unlike anything I've ever seen.   He carried the Sabres a game away from the Stanley Cup, and they probably didn't deserve to be in the playoffs.

As far as track record, and consistency, no active goalie dares compare with Brodeur.   And no one has, at least since Roy retired.

As far as who to pick to play, right now, if given the choice, it's Nabokov.

It's amazing that two of the best goalies right now both came through the Sharks system - Nabokov and Kiprusoff.   At one time Kip was the best backup in the league, by far.   Probably the best duo since Hasek backed up Belfour.

  15. umm hard question theres a few goalies that are really good themselves but their records are not the best because they have poor defense on their side aka mikka kiprusoff and then theres chris osgood and marc andre fleury both amazing goalies

  16. I wish it was Lundqvist.....i'll say Brodeur. He's been one of the best goalies right next to Hasek for all of those years they've played against each other.

  17. I am a sharks fan so I would love to say Nabakov but it is still Brouduer. He has been the best goalie in the league since Roy left. He has quick reflexes, absolutely perfect positioning and technique, and he plays his best in big games.

  18. i love turco and fleury but i gotta give props to osgood too. i guess my irrational hatred for him stems from the fact that he beat out my two favorite teams... and has the gayest helmet in the NHL

  19. CMgoods, do the devils have a good roster?  Marty brodeur plain and simple.  MAF is still far from the best goalie in the league, he lets in a good amount of weak goals.  Lundqvist would be the best if he didnt have midseason letdowns and had better rebound control.  Luongo and nabby are probably right behind Marty.  Osgood is not the best, nowhere near.  he played great in the playoffs, but is good, not the best.

  20. Brodeur still holds the title
