There's a group of non-contenders that are excellent climbers but as far as real contenders I'd say Contador is the consummate climber.

currenty i have to also throw in for Alberto Contador.  He was the class of the field in the mountains in last year's tour and proved he still has the form in this years Giro.  unfortunately, he wont be competing in france this year, so Valverde is looking hard to beat to me at this point.

i would agree

however for me Michael Boogerd and Chechu Rubiera are a class above

True workers, who only when they are gone do you realise the quality has fallen

look at last years tour and in 06

Chechu had no-one to pace

or want there

thus tempo on big climbs was much slower

Boogerd not being there this year = Menchov has no chance

Alberto is good

but hes a winner, the best climbers are the domestiques for US Postal/Discovery Channel, T-Mobile-High Road and Astana
