  1. Well as of right now I will have to go with Cliff Lee from the Cleavland Indians. He has a 16-2 record and the best ERA from a starting pitcher with 2.45.

  2. Closer: K-Rod

    Starter: Brandon Webb

  3. At the moment: Roy Halladay

    For his career: Greg Maddux

  4. When I saw this question what came to mind was who I'd want taking the ball 2-3 times when my Cubs make the World Series and the answer is Roy Halladay.

He's a workhorse who can win the big games and doesn't beat himself. Give me 3 Halladay WS starts and I'll give you a championship.

When I see people mentioning that fat@ss up in Milwaukee I can't help but think how Carlos Beltran parlayed a great postseason into a huge payday...and hasn't produced since. Sabathia didn't deservethe Cy Yonug last year and based on seasonal stats he's not the best pitcher by a long shot. I recall the Cubs b*tch-slapping his fat @ss a couple weeks ago. Sabathia's been hot lately but using the hot-pitcher-is-the-best logic the best pitcher in MLB is Brad Ziegler; he's undefeated with a 0.00 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, and .179 BAA.

  5. This is way too hard to answer. There's a ton I can't choose from. Webb, Halladay, Sabathia, Lincecum, Rivera, and there's a ton of other great pitchers.

  6. This season Cliff Lee, he's having a career season returing to the form of 2005, however one-two season does not a best pitcher overall make.  I have two answers for this question, one for each division, and I will concede they have both already been mentioned but I'll give my reasons why.

    AL - Roy Halladay

Taking out the two years he was hurt no pitcher in the A.L. as been as clutch as he has (winning 16 games a season on average, realitivly low walks, and a phemonal ERA for the American League even more impressive when you think of the lineups the Yankees and Red Sox have fielded the last couple years).  He hasn't really pitched for a consistent winner but constantly having superb seasons. To include winning the Cy Young in 2004

    N.L. - Brandon Webb

Another Cy Young winner in 2006 (and probably another one this year), no pitcher in baseball has won more games then he has since 2006, the best stopper in baseball right now, and the most consistent in pitching, constantly low ERA, Walks and WHIP.  And at 28 he's just now starting to hit his prime, will be a great pitcher for years to come.

So these are my choices whould like to hear yours.

  7. um, excuse me, Kevin. did you say Sabathia "didn't deserve the Cy Young last year" and he's just using "the hot pitcher is the best pitcher"? you clearly must have misspoken. i realize you're a Cubs fan, and you're all happy cuz you're doing great now, and thus you're gonna trash talk C.C., but rest assured he is no fluke. he's been one of the best in the game for quite some time now.

first of all, even with his A.L. numbers from this year he's 13-8 with a 3.04 era. 7 complete game, 4 shutouts. a league leading 186 innings. those numbers still put him in the top 5 in MLB.

second of all, with respect to last year's Cy Young, he pitched 241 innings and went 4 complete games. you of all people (with injury prone ryan dempster, rich harden and kerry wood) should appreciate that. in those 241 innings he got himself 19 wins, one shy of beckett's 20. he posted a 3.21 era with 200+ strikeouts, along with a nice 1.14 whip and only 1.3 bb/9. basically, he was a strikeout pitcher that didn't give up a lot of hits or walks, went deep into games and won most of them. sounds Cy Young worthy to me.

you're just gonna have to face it, he's one of the best. and he's my answer to this question.

...by the way, i'm a Mets fan, so this is in no way me hating on the Cubs either. I'd love to see the Cubs make it, you're just wrong about Sabathia.

  8. Hands down! Tim Lincecum! The crazy thing is that he will only get better with more experience.  The 2 guys have the best years though would be C Lee and Webb.  Good call on Halladay though.  With run support, he would win 20 games every year and is a dying breed of starting pitchers that can go 9 innings almost every game.

  9. Cliff Lee

  10. Currently since Moving to the Milwaukee Brewers the best pitcher is C.C. Sabathia. His numbers are outstanding since coming to the National League. Including 4 complete games in 8 starts, 2 of those being shut outs. He is also 7-0 since joining the Brew Crew and has a 1.55 ERA. In his 64 innings he has struck out 60 men. He is by far the best pitcher in the Majors right now and will get paid the big money next year.

  11. Yeah you are definately right, there are a few that stand out more than the rest.

I think Joba Chamberlain is one of those pitchers, despite the fact he is hurt now.

The trio of starters-Volquez, Webb and Lincecum are right there too.

Roy Halladay should not be overlooked as well, hes a perennial workhorse and always has a shot to go the distance.

Liriano is scary good, and we could see more of him this year as the Twins push to make the playoffs.

I think when he gets back, Joba will be the best righty and Liriano the best lefty.

  12. i believe the best needs to be the most reliable...so i choose a closer

    surprise surprise Mariano Rivera

    "The Sandman"

  13. Webb
