unfortunately, I have to say lebron james.  he can do anything you want him to - rebound, pass out assists, get the crowd on fire, shoot the rock anywhere, or base your team's strategy on him.  his flaw tho - can't make free throws as much as he should.

i guess you could say kobe because he does have rings and has been around forever, but lebron is young and still advancing his skills.

this is coming from a die hard pistons fan...

i say lebron james. he is the youngest nba player to score 9000 points (age 23), he played in the olympics the year after he was drafted, and he was drafted out of high school. i also like Dwayne wade

Whether you are a Laker fan or not, a Kobe hater or not, if you know the game of basketball then you know the answer is Kobe Bryant.

If you want to make an argument for Lebron James I can understand that. In terms of just statistics, for the 2007-2008 regular season Lebron is slightly better. Based on Hollinger's Player Effiency Rating (PER), which is a rating of a player's per-minute productivity, Lebron is "King":

But Kobe is among the league's best in terms of statistics as well, and to determine who is "better" we have to go beyond just numbers. Kobe is a notch above Lebron right now. Both players are incredible offensive forces, able to create their own shots and score at will. But Kobe Bryant is clearly a better defensive player. He is an 8 time All-Defensive Team selection. How many times has Lebron James earned that honor? Zero.

This past season Kobe led his team to more wins, went deeper in the playoffs...and he did it in a tougher conference. In addition, Kobe has more playoff experience and three championship rings on Lebron. Until both of their careers are over we won't be able to make a final judgement, but as of right now Kobe Bryant is clearly the best basketball player playing right now.

If you were to poll those with the most professional basketball knowledge, such as fellow NBA players, NBA coaches, GM's, the media that covers the NBA, and other NBA executives, they would overwhelmingly agree that Kobe Bryant is the best player in the world right now.

Yea you can say tim duncan because of his rings..but hes not close to kobe or being the best right now especialy with all the good guards.You can say lebron james because hes so big and strong but hes not better than kobe right now,because kobe is playing so well right now..Maybe you can say tracy mcgrady,dwayne wade but no one is as good as kobe and no one will be for a while until lebron or carmello hit there prime like kobe has.

lebron.  i'm tired of everyone sayin kobe cuz everyone else says it.  great players in basketball and soccer are always the ones that make the team better and are brilliant passers along with being terriffic scorers.  kobe is simply not a great passer and does not make his teammates better.
