  1. Wally Hammond  for his  double tons

  2. i think it's the nasir hussain.

  3. From the past:Graham Gooch,Ian Botham,Mike Gatting,Phil Tuffnel...

From Present:Kevin Pieterson,Monty Panasar, Steve Harmisson and Freddie Flintoff....

  4. monty panesar.

  5. ICC ranking wise its Sir Leonard Hutton , i however did not have a chance to witness him so IMO as is indicated in the additonal details it would have to be Ian Botham , he could bat and bowl extremely well which was somewhat uncommon for his time , a revoloutionist if you would like.

  6. monty panesar is the all time champion

  7. ian botham

  8. Willy,Botham,W.G.Grace, Boycott

    Collingwood,Vaughan,Pietersen,Andrew Strauss

  9. Graham Gooch is the all-time best English Cricketer. He can bowl medium pace. He played for England and county team Essex.

    Edit:

    Tests

    118 Matches, 8900 runs, Average 42.58.

    23 Wickets

    ODI

    125 Matches, 4219 runs, Average 36.98

    36 Wickets

    First Class Cricket

    44846 runs, Average 49.01

He played from 1975 to 1995 for England.

Captained 34 Tests and 50 ODIs for England.

  10. Out of those I have been lucky enough to see it would have to be Ian  Botham , just phenomenal both with bat and ball and capable of changing a game single handed. Boycs was a great bat, and a true exponent of the test match , but Boff shades it for me.

  11. no doubt with mr. ian botham.

  12. Hi

I just started watching cricket about 10 years ago so I havent watched the players like Botham etc. Personally I like Freddy and Peitersen.

  13. I have had many favourite England players over the years, but I think Gower & Willis were my two favourites. Were you around when Willey, Dilly & Lillee all played in the same match, Aus V Eng? It struck me as funny at the time.

  14. To me without doubt it is Ian Botham.....but knowing ur obsession with SJ, I was just about to blurt out his name!!!!

    j/k.....lol!!

  15. Dear Mr Kookee

Best? theres good players in england? :P

Seriously i would have to say the big man Sir Ian Botham has had a massive influence. his proformances against Aussie always stand out to me. also hes a great character so that helps

I dont really like discussing per world war 2 players so ill leave out W.G Grace and the rest

    With lots of love

    Joel S

  16. I haven't seen any of Botham, because I didn't follow cricket when I was 10, and he retired in 1992.

From what I've seen, I think KP is the best England have produced. He is a genuine match winner.

  17. I consider W.G.Grace as the best ever Cricketer of England.

By his extraordinary skills, he made cricket a popular spectator sport.  He was the one  who developed most of the techniques of modern batting.

In many of the tributes paid to him, he was referred to as "The Great Cricketer". Perhaps the most significant tribute to him comes from the anti-establishment writer CLR James who includes a whole section, covering four chapters and some sixty pages, about Grace in his classic work Beyond a Boundary. James entitles this section "WG: Pre-Eminent Victorian" and declares Grace to have been "the best-known Englishman of his time". James goes on to say of cricket that it is "the game he  transformed into a national institution".

  18. Flintoff

  19. I loved Graeme Hick

  20. Ian Botham would be my choice he was a world class all rounder who could turn a game single handedly with bat and ball although there were many other great players from years ago.

  21. I would like to nominate Jack Hobbs. I can't believe no-one has mentioned him yet! 5410 runs @ 56.94. 15 100's, 28 50's in a career spanning 22 years. Had it not been for WW1, then he would have got many more runs. He shared the legendary opening partnership with Herbert Sutcliffe. He didn't make his debut until he was 25 and played his final game at the age of 47 (Unthinkable these days).

Above all though, he was the ONLY Englishman selected as one of the five Wisden cricketers of the 20th Century.

I would place Wally Hammond in a close second.

  22. 'Player' word indicates the performance as a bowler + as a batsman + as a fielder. Let us talk of test match cricket and filter out players wo played less than 20 test matches. My computer has selected the following top 5:

    (1) Sydney F Barnes (1901-14): 27 test matches, 242 runs, 189 wickets, 12 catches.

    (2) Ian Botham (1977-92): 102 matches, 5,200 runs, 383 wickets, 120 catches.

    (3) Anthony W Greig (1972-77): 58 matches, 3,599 runs, 141 wickets, 87 catches.

    (4) Maurice W Tate (1924-35): 39 matches, 1,198 runs, 155 wickets, 11 catches.

    (5) Walter Hammond (1927-47): 85 matches, 7,249 runs, 83 wickets, 110 catches.

    ODI cricket (filter:atleast 40 matches):

    (1) Andrew Flintoff (1999-present): 127 matches, 3,090 runs, 146 wickets, 41 catches.

    (2) Graeme A Hick (1991-01): 120 matches, 3,846 runs, 30 wickets, 64 catches.

    (3) Ian Botham (1976-92): 116 matches, 2,113 runs, 145 wickets, 36 catches.

    (4) Nicholas V Knight (1996-2003): 100 matches, 3,626 runs, 0 wickets, 44 catches.

    (5) Robin A Smith (1988-96): 71 matches, 2,419 runs, 0 wickets, 26 catches.

  23. That's a hard one. But I'd probably concure with all the other people who have said Ian Botham, simply because he had such a massive influence on the game, he pretty much redifined the role of the all-rounder.

Edit: I see Simon Jones took a wicket in his first match for Worcestershire but he's so far only bowled about 3 overs. Is he taking it easy or is there another problem/injury?

  24. W.Hammond

    J.Laker

    Ian Botham.

  25. Andrew Flintoff

  26. Ian Botham.

    Cannot compare any other.
