I've heard Canadian Pacific and BNSF are pretty good. Any truth to those rumors?

  1. Well i've only got 3 states for 2 railroads but i agree with Rango 100%.They are all pretty much the same these days as far as class 1 railroads go.I have heard from guys on the BNSF that they are really tough on rules. They can't be much worse than the UP though. The FRA has made it tough on all of them and you know the old saying...p**p rolls downhill.

  2. They are all good as far as pay and benefits,

what you should be looking at is the location you want to live. the job is more or less the same.

In 35 years of railroading in 4 states for 3 railroads I realize they are all more or less the same.

Supervisors come and go, some are good, some are not.

If you do your job well, dont cause undue trouble, you wont have trouble, railroads want and need good employees.

  3. The best is no longer available...  but it ain't dead, either.

I've worked the BNSF yard at Klamath Falls when we'd bring 'em, some cars.  It was well lighted, the switches were in good operating order (didn't have to bust a gut trying to line one) and the people I have talked to are happy, overall, to be working for the BNSF.  I have read comments from many who speak well of the BNSF in this forum as well.

But, there is only one thing you really need to know...

Treat the Union Pacific as if it were a rabid, aids infected, radio-active, demonically possessed, syphilitic rattlesnake, and you'll do alright.

  4. try the south african transnet freight rail services, its a world leader, the best.

  5. Well, I've only worked for two railroads in one state. And I'm not a top contributor. So I'll just be moving along now.
