  1. wally lewis gets the nod with brad fittler 2nd, most 1st grade players before the 70s would be lucky just to get in reserve grade.

  2. The best ever would without a doubt be Mick Cronin (Parra)

That man did not have to do piddly little round the corner kicks to get goals. Anywhere on the field he could kick from dead straight each & every time, over the black dot every time.

Also he was a first class centre playing for his club, state & country.

Oh Micky you're so fine, your'e so fine, you blow my mind hey Micky, Hey Micky

  3. andrew johns

  4. In my time, Andrew Johns, Laurie Daley, Brad Fittler, Bobby Fulton,Wally Lewis

  5. defintely any broncos or cowboys players as long as they were born in QLD. no seriously I think Wally Lewis or Alfie Langer, Darren Lockyer is a real trooper and Thurston. Petero Civoniceva is my hero!    Andrew Johns is a druggo

  6. in my time.. i'd have to say andrew johns although it kills me to say it... although cam smith his working his way up there...

  7. Johnathan Thurston! So talented, so great and so much more potential...

  8. my top 3 best ever players would be -

    1)wally lewis

    2)alfie langer

    3) darren lockyer

  9. Reg Gasnier "Puff the Magic Dragon!"

  10. Modern day - Andrew Johns. Also I think Lockyer is so over-rated and not worth his value.

All time - Wally 'the king' Lewis.

They are alot of great footballers from back in the days, the modern day player is nothing in comparison.

  11. wally lewis the king!! seriously

  12. Dave Brown easily, he doesnt get much press when it comes to talks of historys gratest player because he played back in the 1920s and 1930s but he revolutionised the game and could definately be credited with making it the free flowing form it is today, unlike rugby union which is just phase after phase of tackled until one team turns it over.

He holds the record for the most tries in both a season and game aswell as convertions in a season, stil he doesnt receive the recognition he deserves

  13. Willie Mason Hahaha nah just kiddin

i actually believe Clive Churchill form the history just watching some of his matches from back in the day its not the tries he scored but his assists and runs that gained vital metres in a day when that was one of the most important things

Modern day has to be (though it pains me to say) Andrew Johns he helped evolve the game to be controlled more with there kicks instead of just kicking for the sidelines but his career cut short so we stand by and say what if and what could he have still accomplished with a few more years, the many occasions he carried newcastle on his back in the last few years he played, with Daren Lockyer a very close second even maybe a draw, with his transition in positions and being able to strive in both with ease and natural ability not just for club but state and country.

  14. I have been watching League since 1968 - I was very young.

Bobby Fulton was a magician in the backs and Artie Beetson changed the whole game in the forwards. I didn't see Gasnier, Raper, Provan in their prime so I would have to exclude them. Peter Sterling was a great player but shoulder injuries meant we never saw the best of him.

I think Wally was overrated - he played in a backline that included Meninga, Miles, Langer etc. He was an ordinary club player with Brisbane and even more ordinary at the Gold Coast.

In recent years I have seen Johns do some amazing things - mainly in State of Origin because thats all the League I watch these days.

  15. Kevin Hastings - Eastern Suburbs 1976-1987

Played the most conseq games without injury. Remained with the same club despite massive offers from Manly to go with Fulton in the early/mid 1980's (and probably cost himself an Australian Jumper at the same time).

Had vision, defense and all round abilities not matched by others. Was able to shine in a losing team.

Closest to him - Joey Johns (even if he was chemically assisted), Wayne Peace

  16. Dally Messenger, Clive Churchill, Norm Provan, Reg Gasnier, John Raper. All brilliant players

  17. even though controvesy now suuronds his career i have to say Andrew Johns, the guy was a freak great attacking game outstanding kicking game and strong defender, made eveyone on whatever team he played for look better than what they are. Also I believe Shane Webcke deserves a mention. That guy would have played with a broken neck if Brisbane, Queensland or Australia needed him. Was tougher then a $2 steak.

  18. johnny wilkingson

  19. i can only comment on my lifetime, and that would be andrew johns

  20. Wally Lewis, no question.

Wally had the ability to turn a game on its head.  He has taken many games and with a few plays has turned it around.

Amazing defender, made those around him play better, brilliant reader of the game.  There was none better.  I have only seen two players that know what will happen two and three tackles before it happens, Wally Lewis and Peter Sterling.

They are my pick for 1 & 2

  21. Clive Churchill and you know what?No matter how much he is in the media-Willie Mason should be right up there too!
