  1. IT'S GOT TO BE MARTIN JOHNSON

  2. Johnny Wilkinson Best kicker in the world

  3. this is a very hard question as we all know the vast differences between the different potions so here is my list

    front row Jason Lennard

second row has to be johno

back row Laurence dellagio (cant spell for the life of me)

    scrum half Austin Haley

    fly half Johnny Wilkinson

    centre will Carling

    back 3 jason robbinson

  4. Martyn Johnston.

He would still fit into any squad, anywhere in the world. First rate player.

  5. Johnny Wilkinson.

No reason & I am Welsh.

  6. Jonny Wiliknson can't be called the best English rugby player ever because he just doesn't play enough, he's too injury prone. KIcking goals when he does play doesn't qualify him for that honour.

I would definietly say Martin Johnson. He was a durable player that played for several years at the top level. An inspirational captain well respected by his opponents.

  7. peter winterbottom a fantastic player who always put his body on the line

  8. Martyn Johnston. Great player, great leader and decent bloke.

  9. I love MJ and Neil Back. But Richard Hill is awesome

  10. It is quite simple:

Martin Johnson - His leadership skills alone must make him the World's Best, let alone Englands!

This is coming from a South African by the way!

  11. I think Jason Robinson coz of his speed , strength and determination. A lot of people will say Johnny Wilkinson , granted he is an asset. But he is always unfortunately injured.

  12. a young argentinain , just forget his name , he likes smashing everybodys jaw in ,  makes exellent tv

  13. Martyn Johnson.

    1. A fantastic player in his own right - would've have made it into any team in the world.

    2. An exceptional leader and motivator of the team.

    3. A guy who put his body on the line time after time, never asking anyone to push themselves more than he would himself.

    4. A great Lions captain and player.

    5. A player whose very presence intimidated the opposition because they knew there would be no give.

    6. And finally some one who knew when to quit, at the top of his game and will always be remembered as the player he was and not for his fall from grace etc.

A true all round great and in my opinion sadly overlooked as all the attention for the final went to Johnnys kick that won the game. As much of a fan of Johnny as I am, Martyn is the greater player, leader and motivator and should have been the sports personality of 2003. Johnny is a superb talisman, a fantastic player and wears his heart on his sleeve but cannot quite attain the greatness of Martyn.

  14. marty johnston was  tops all time. i knew him well.

  15. Union--- David Campese

    League --  Martin Offiah

Both outstanding wingers who could score a try from anywhere on the park

  16. Fran Cotton - strong as an ox, had the pleasure of packing down against him when i was a kid at a training camp - past his prime but an honour non the least, he typified everything about the game in the famous 'mud man' photo in the 70's

  17. Most skilled was by far Jeremy Guscott, Jason Robinson is also highly skilled but as a gain-breaker not a link man.

In terms off influnce and success though, Martin Johnson would be my choice.

Put the best of these qualities together though and you may notice Jonny Wilkinson has all these attributes. The Fly-Half is the team's playmaker and pivot, thus even Dan Carter thinks Wilkinson's the best fly-half of all time.

  18. Jason Leonard

Held the England scrum together and enabled them to get on topof most other sides during his time . Reguarded as the best Prop of his time and played the highest number of tests and Internationals for England  .Clocked up 100 tests ..

Very hard to go past him ..

  19. I always think that's an impossible question to answer with one name because it's meaningless to compare forwards and backs.  The best forward - Peter Winterbottom for me.  A simply superb openside, incredibly strong, tactically astute and always there at the breakdown.  Best back - Jeremy Guscott.  An abundance of natural skill, electric acceleration, a beautiful and elusive runner.  The greatest pity is that he played in an era when England played turgid, defensive rugby, stuffing the ball up the forwards' shirts and hardly ever spinning it.  If he was playing today, he would score a huge number of tries.

  20. No-one in ANY England side would be fit to clean the boots of Gareth Edwards, Barry John, Phil Bennett et al of Wales..

    Cymru am byth.

janhammeruk2003... I must have been away when Campese played for England...remind me who it was against.

  21. Jonny Wilkinson and Martin Johnson

Wilkinson for his sheer ability and workrate

And Jonno for his amazing leadership.if you were in the trenches he would be the man you would want to be with

  22. Martin Johnson. Inspiration Captain, great ball carrier and tackle, good tactical knowledge and awesome in the line out.

Jason Robinson has good acceleration but no positional sense whatsoever and can't Tackle.

Wilkinson is Englands best tackler ever and is a great kicker, and can dictate play, but misses out to Johnson because he isn't a very good attacker.
