ahhh...opinions...okay...i'll say this...during ozzie smith's career, he was adored and rightly so...but during that same period, if i was starting a team with a young shortstop from the national league?  i'd take barry larkin over ozzie every time...just my opinion, but it's sure nice to have a guy who is both great on defense and can hit, too...

and there were a lot of good ones mentioned here, so take your pick...again, this is fun stuff...

Defensively- Ozzie Smith (it's all about making the most plays, not the prettiest plays, which is why Ozzie will always get the nod over the overrated Omar every time)

Hanley Ramirez can hit,  steal and hit for power, but I have to give to Jimmy Rollins because he can do all that (30 hr 38 2b 20 3B, 41 SB .296 avg last year) and is also a leader and great defensive shortstop.  Ramirez needs to improve in that area.
