Despite a rough 2008 start, Roger Federer is still the best male tennis player overall. Rafa is the best clay tennis player, but overall he needs to improve on other courts. For the females, right now, Sharapova is the best player, a win in the French Open would just add to her dominance in 2008, since henin is retired.

look at the facts all of you rafa lovers, he has been number 2 for 3 years now because....he is the second best player, Roger Federer is not only the best current player, but the most skilled player of all time with out a doubt!  JUst look at his results. Nadal made it to 2 out of four grand slams in 2007 and 2006, federer made it to 4 out of 4 and won 3.  Novac is going to take that 2 spot soon anyway lol.
