Glenn McGrath is a bowler for all seasons and all surfaces, so is Murali. Lee is good, but in comparison with McGrath, he not up there. Mendis is yet to be tested on different surfaces, let us see how he fares outside the subcontinent.

McGrath has a better average in both forms of the game, he is more accurate, he can do more things with the ball, and in general he has taken more wickets than Lee, and will take more wickets than Lee when his career is over. McGrath has been a consistent wicket taker for 10 years, Lee has been a consistent wicket taker for 2 years

Muralitharan is the better bowler, we cannot compare the two yet, because Mendis has played so little cricket, whilst Murali has played a decades worth of cricket. Mendis looks like the new Murali, but at the moment Muralitharan is way ahead of Mendis

Glen McGrath- He's the pacer to take most number of test wickets. When Lee made his debut in 2000, McGrath was his mentor & he got to learn alot of bowling tricks of the game. McGrath unarguably one of the biggest legend of the game is better.

Lee is the one future great & current spearhead of Aussie attack.

Muralitharan- He's the best spinner in world cricket currently & has taken more than 700 wickets in tests, over 400 in ODIs while Mendis has just made his debut in the last test & no deny it was impressive indeed, but even if we don't go by the records, Murali still comes out to be better pick with the variety in bowling that he has.

McGrath is certainly a better bowler than Brett Lee though the difference is very small that can be caught by my computer.

McGrath: 124 Test matches, 29,248 balls, 12,186 runs conceded, 563 wickets taken, 236 balls per match, 98 runs per match conceded, 4.54 wickets per match, 52 balls per wicket, 21.64 runs per wicket, taken 12.98% of all wickets which were taken by all the bowlers in the series played by him, 2.50 runs per over. My rating: 69.7%.

Brett Lee: 68 Test matches, 14,764 balls, 8,551 runs conceded, 289 wickets taken, 217 balls per match, 126 runs per match conceded, 4.25 wickets per match, 51 balls per wicket, 29.59 runs per wicket, taken 12.35% of all wickets which were taken by all the bowlers in the series played by him, 3.48 runs per over. My rating 67.7%.

Regarding Murali & Mendis. Let Mendis play atleast half the number of matches played by Murali. then we will compare. But let us see what Murali has done so far.

Muralitharan: 121 Test matches, 40,287 balls, 16,247 runs conceded, 746 wickets taken, 333 balls per match, 134 runs per match conceded, 6.17 wickets per match, 54 balls per wicket, 21.77 runs per wicket, taken 20% of all wickets which were taken by all the bowlers in the series played by him, 2.41 runs per over. My rating 86%.
