As a Cubs fan, I know theres nothin better than kicking the c**p outta our Division rival Cardinals. The White Sox are a rival, but we only play 6 games a year against them and their standing in their division has nothing to do with us

So yeah the White Sox are Rivals but not nearly as big as the Cardinals

Cards, inter-league teams should never be considered rivals! ESPN always says the Dodgers and Angels are rivals, how can you be a rival of a team you play 6 games (at the most) each season?! Doesn't make sense, do away with inter-league, please!

Cardinals. Rivals since the American Association days of the mid 1880s. My great great (great?) uncle, Bill Gleason, played on the Cardinals. They faced the Cubs in the 1885 championship; it was not called the World Series back then; but the Cubs bribed the umpires (or the other way around) and the series ended in dispute. The next year the Cardinals won the championship. Back then the Cardinals were known as the Brown Stockings and the Cubs the White Stockings.

White Sox fans seem to think the Cubs are their biggest rivals, but Cubs fans know that the Cardinals, Brewers and Astros are their biggest rivals.  The Cubs play the White Sox 6 games a year and they don't mean diddly squat aside from bragging rights.  Cubs fans know the teams in their division are their biggest rivals.  They meet 18 times a year and are competing for a division title.

Ty K, the Cubs and Brewers are rivals, but nothing like the Cubs and Cardinals.  The Brewers used to be an AL team so this rivalry is fairly recent.  Cubs and Cardinals have been going at it for well over 100 years.

Lars, how is the series far one-sided in the Cardinals favor?  I believe the record between the Cubs and Cardinals is 1,140-1,075 in favor of the Cubs.  Looks to me that you've got it backwards who this series favors.  Don't believe me, here's a link to prove it.

I won't presume to answer for those who live in Chicago or even those who are Cub fans.

But I can say as a Cardinal fan who lived in central Illinois the first 34 years of his life that the Cubs/Cards rivalry transcends anything else in sports:  The American League is basically an afterthought, U of I doesn't have a true in-state rival and there aren't enough Packers fans downstate.

Cubs/Cardinals games are THE biggest thing in sports south of I-80 in Illinois.
