  1. Short answer:  Luis Gonzaga de Casanova-Cardenas, Duque de Santangelo (b. 1950) is probably the linear descendant of Montezuma (II) with the best claim to the Aztec throne should he care to claim it--which isn't very likely.

Long explanation:  Yes, Montezuma's descendants did survive. Montezuma's grandson, Ihuitenetzin, who was baptized as Diego Luis de Montezuma, was brought to Spain by Philip II, whereupon he married Francesca de la Cueva de Valenzuela.  Their son was then given the title Court de Montezuma de Tultengo, becoming a part of the Spanish nobility.

The 10th generation descendant of Montezuma, Francisco Javier Giron y Ezpeleta was born in 1803 in Pamplona, Spain.  When he died without issue, the line was passed to his younger brother, Antonio Mario Ponce de Leon, who fathered two daughters.  As of 1843, the Giron y Aragon family split into two brances: the descendants of Maria del Carmen (Line G-1) and the descendants of Maria de la Conception (Line G-2).  Luis Gonzaga de Casanova-Cardenas is a descendant of Line G-1.
