  1. They are Flight Nurses and Paramedics. Check your local Medevacs job requirements.

"Helicopters vary considerably in weight carrying capacity, ability to fly in inclement weather, range, speed, and crew configuration. Crews may be nurse-paramedic, nurse- respiratory therapist, nurse-physician or nurse-nurse. Some helicopter programs operate much like those in the Vietnam War, and concentrate on getting the patient to the hospital rapidly for treatment. Others prefer to provide patient care from the time that they arrive and during transport, effectively bringing hospital care to the patient. "

    Check out the links below.

  2. It is common for the crew to have one pilot, one nurse, and one paramedic. Check out the following:

  3. Krysta, usually MD's are not in the crew of MedEvac helicopters. This is where paramedics are employed. Go see your local ambulance authority or fire department and talk to the paramedics there.

    Regards,

    Dan

  4. They are not MDs, but EMTs and ParaMedics.  You can get an EMT certificate in a year or an associate degree as a ParaMedic in two years at your local community college.

The Community College is in the phone book.  Call the main number and they can help you set up an appointment with the admissions director in the program you want to be in.

You have to be okay with lots of blood and guts.  People's faces coming off in your hand, and stuff like that.  If you can handle that stuff, then go for it.  There will always be a shortage of EMTs and ParaMedics.
