one that has helpfull simple to use tools that are free with an account and has 1 fee per trade, not hidden fees attached to everything.

I currently use Firstrade http://www.firstrade.com/.  It's $6.95 per trade, which is cheaper than all of the big name brokers.  The website is very easy to use, making it very good for beginners.  There are no maintenance fees, inactivity fees, or any hidden fees whatsoever.

i LOVE Scottrade

lowest commission and they don't ask too much questions and you get the most out of it.  if you want to buy mutual fund, trade option, you can pretty much do any of that versus other brokers who have tons of restriction and requirements such as Bank of America Investment Services..
