  1. the American winger can apparently do the 100m in 10.2 seconds or something like that. I think he's now signed for Leicester.

  2. I have just said this on another thread:

Stormers and sometimes Springbok wing Tonderai Chavhanga is genreally recognised as the fastest man in world rugby, with a reported 100m time of 10.27s. Interestingly, Chavanga and Ngwenya went to the same school.

    Raw pace isn't everything remember.

  3. Fastest at what?

Fastest rugby player over 100m on a track?

    Eric Liddell (Scotland)

    David Trick (England)

    or Nigel walker (Wales)

But that counts for nothing* on the pitch with your boots on and 15 blokes trying to stop you.

Fastest playing now, during a game of rugby and doing something good would be a tough call between

    Brian Habana

    Takudzwa Ngwenya

    William Ryder

    and Shane Williams

  4. Joe Rococoko.

I have to go with the All Blacks on this one.

  5. Kiwi here.

Yeah I have to agree with the guy that said who gassed Habana from USA. The was like the best I have seen in this world cup.

  6. Two "Brians" spring to mind.

Players on current form and at an international level, probably Brian Habana (RSA).IRB Player of the year, so speed as well as skill.

However my vote would go to Paddy O' Brien. NZ ref and chairman of the ref fraternity who did some real fast talk after Wayne "Barrister" Barnes decided the fate of the AB's in the quarter finals. I hope he has his running shoes on when he gets home!

  7. I think it used to be Martin Offiah, but now I would say a guy called Paul White, ex Huddersfield Giants and Wakey Wildcats, now plays for Salford City Reds.

  8. actually habana is the fastest current rugby player in the world!

  9. A lot of people say Bryan Habana.  But he got burned for a try by Takudzwa "Z" Ngwenya in the USA v SA match.

    USA!!

  10. dunno who it is but some rugby player is 43 stone!!!!!

    I was like WOOAAHHH!!!!!

  11. Mark Jones..wales...

    The guy is lightning.

  12. It is Habana, not Ngwenya who you are thinking of. Yes Ngwenya beat Habana down the outside to score a try but he wrong footed Habana with a couple of sidesteps effectively meaning that Ngwenya was already in full flight whilst Habana had to start from more or less a stand still.

    Other frighteningly quick players are:

    Joe Rockoko

    Sitevi??? Sivivatu

    Paul Sackey

    Josh Lewsey

    Matthew Tait

    David Strettle

    Tom Varndell

    Lote Tuqiri

    Adam Ashley-Cooper

    Doug Howlett

    Shane Williams

    John Paul Pieterson

    Vincent Clerc

    There are others.

  13. There's a lot of jealousy surrounding Habana now and I noticed as the WC went on more and more people were dismissing Habana despite the fact he became top try scorer!

I'd say its to close to call between Habana and Ngwenya - Habana was beaten at his own game but he was at a standstill when we went after him. All credit to Ngwenya.

But what difference does a second or two make? Habana is still a more finished product, he's getting better and better all the time - his tries against Samoa & Argentina were simply awesome and showed in the final that he's also good in defense - very deserving of Player of the Year imo!

  14. despite on his body size and his weight, jonah lome is the fastest wing in the world of rugby. Not only running, thinking and decission also crucial and supposed to be count in as fastes.

    Jonah Lomu, living legends!

  15. Joe Rococoko

From the All Blacks, once he starts running he is impossible to chase down

  16. One of the following three: Brian Habana, Rupeni Caucaunibuca, Joe Rokocoko.

For me Habana is the best.

  17. the NZ and Aussie squads as a whole, one minute they are there the next.........gone, amazing

Rupeni Caucaunibuca, this guy is very quick. Played for the Auckland Blues

  19. habana at the moment. Ngwenya was in full speed and he sidestepped habana, and Habana started gaining on him.

shows habana getting "smoked" on the wing by ngwenya

  21. Not wayne barnes

  22. Fastest ever was probably Paul Walker, who used to be winger for Wales in the early 90s and ran in the Olympic final for the 110m Hurdles.

Top speed is not as important as acceleration though, especially when combined with a change of direction.  Who's the fastest in the world at this currently?  It pains me to say probably another welshman Shane Williams in full 15

If you include 7's though William Ryder is in another league, he wouldn't just race a cheetah, he could side step sunlight:

Jason Robinson in his Wigan days though would have given him a run for his money!

  23. It's some guy in the SA team (can't remember his name - but if you search "Rugby World Cup 2007" it will give you a synopsis of the team and their stats). Apparently he runs at 100 metres at 10.4 secs!!!! WOW!!! (top game, by the way)
