  1. Still photography -

    In 1827 the first photograph was taken by Joseph Nicephore Niepcen and it took eight hours for that image to be recorded.

    He called his process "Heliography".

    Moving pictures -

    The Lumière brothers, invented the Cinématographe, which was patented and demonstrated in 1895.

    This mechanism was the first to photograph, print, and project moving pictures onto a screen where they could be viewed by an audience.

    The portable Cinématographe was an important improvement upon the Edison kinetoscope.


  2. i-wanna, Lumiere made the first moving picture, but he wasn't the first photographer.  The first person that answered is correct.
