  1. Goggle for the Antikythera mechanism and read all about it.

Two television programmes did cover it - Modern Marvels - Ancient discoveries and Xtreme Mysteries.

  2. copernicus

  3. I think Ancient Chinese or Egyptians

  4. Copernicus; he also made the first model of the solar system.

  5. Tycho Brahe

  6. Kepler was the first to get them right mathematically and even gave a set of laws governing all planetary motion!

The heliocentric idea is much older than you have been lead to believe:

  7. That was kind of a progressive thing involving a number of scientist and a couple of millennia.  Aristarchus proposed the Heliocentric model and Copernicus enlarged on it published it many years later.  Then there were Galileo,Kepler, and Isaac Newton.  There is a pretty good summary in Wikipedia.

  8. Copernicus was the first to write seriously about the sun being in the center of the solar system, but it was Johan Kepler who worked out the orbits were ellipses, and not perfect circles, as was believed at the time. Kepler's laws of orbital motion were refined by Newton's time, and while we can be much more precise today, the basic formulas are still the same ones Kepler came up with.

  9. Several people, including Copernicus worked out that the Earth and planets go around the Sun. Kepler worked out the ellipse shape of the orbits.  This work was refined by Newton.  It was refined by Einstein.  It's possible that General Relativity needs to be modified - perhaps you could discover the modifications to GR that are needed to make it compatible with Quantum Mechanics.  Then you'd be famous for more than 15 minutes.
