  1. Kuala Lumpur became a thriving city in 1857. It was during this time period  that a member of Selangor's royal family, Raja Abdullah, took the decision  to open up an area in the Klang Valley for tin prospectors. Miners from China soon arrived and despite pestilence that killed a large number of them, the Chinese miners thrived, attracting merchants and businesses. The commercial area of tin trading was located in the confluence of the Klang and Gombak rivers and it was here that Kuala Lumpur was established.

Yah Ah Loy is the person, who is termed as the founding leader of modern kuala Lumpur. He was the third  British Kapitan appointed in Kuala Lumpur, by the British, under who's rule this city  really changed and prospered. Under his leadership, Kuala Lumpur was completely  transformed and renewed  from a sleepy town into a prominent commercial hub in Selangor.
