  1. Robert E. Lee should be on your list. Although he fought for the South - he is still part of American history....and a d**n good General.


  2. A. George Washington- he was first!

  3. Stonewall jackson even he fought for the south in the civil war he was a great general. He got shot by his own people and killed. It was an acceident though

  5. They were all good, but I can't compare across different eras.

    You also forgot General Sherman from the Civil War era.

  6. Douglas MacArthur, First in his class at West Point Supreme  Commander of all forces in the Pacific during the second world war.

    - While the U.S. sent most of it's support to Europe he made do and orchestrated the recapture of the entire Pacific.

    - Liberated the Philippines and established a new democratic government.

    - Served as the Military Governor of Japan post War World II

    -- Overseen the development of the Japanese Constitution and new government.

    -- Still revered as a great hero in Japan, Philippines, and Korea

    - Devised the plan to attack the Chinese and North Koreans through Inchon ; a stroke of genies saving the life's of thousands of American service men

  11. Personally, I like General Knox and Abrams. But I can't argue with Patton. Patton saw the need for Armor, and Lt Knox started a camp for training people on Tanks...

  13. they are great in their respective role in modern and american history as they shape the life of the world even after their death, not to mention in their contemporary history.but if u want me to choose i would go for washington. this is because without him, the world we have today might be very much different. imagine a world without an independent and strong amercia.

  15. The list you have compiles is impressive and as you have said there are more. Gen Colin Powell, Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, Gen. Douglas MacArthur. Gen. Creighton W Abrams Jr, Gen. Omar Bradley, Gen. William Westmoreland and Gen David Howell Petraeus. And the list goes on, each having made American strong.

  16. There were so many great American generals. My favorite general is Chesty Puller. He was a great leader! There were so many great leaders. I wish they could all meet each other! Chesty Puller was the best general this planet has ever had on it, though.
