  1. Past:

Forward: Gordie Howe, most complete player the game has ever seen. Could score, play solid D and knock the snot out of anyone....never before and possibly never again will the power and grace of Mr. Hockey be repeated

Defense: Bobbie Orr, changed the way the game was played from the blueline.....enough said!

Goalie: Terry Sawchuk, top 5 in career wins, still the shutout leader and all this without a mask....amazing!

    For todays game:

Forward: Henrik Zetterberg, the most complete forward in  todays game, possible one of the best all time 2 way forwards and he isnt even 30 yet

Defense: Nick Lidstrom, other than Orr it would be hard to find such an incredible 2 way talent, his minutes and +/- are almost beyond belief, nobody should be this good facing other teams 1st lines night after night

Goalie: Martin Brodeur, soon to be the career wins leader, not another goalie in the league right now that compares

  2. Huh? You talking about me?

OK, 1) Gretzky. 2) Jury is still out.

  3. alexander ovechkin 4 trophies in one year thats a first but i think its about opinion alex is soo exciting to watch  65 goals this year hes amazing

  4. Past has to be howe because he was more complete he fought and did everything and present Ovechkin because he is the complete package

  5. Past: Wayne Gretzky.

Present: Jarome Iginla. (We don't hear about him enough because he plays in Calgary.)

  6. Wayne Gretzky and Alex Ovechkin. Alex play with a team of stiffs.

And dont tell me crosby. He isnt even the best player on his team. Malkin is better.

  7. #99 has more career assists than anyone else has total points and not to mention 9 MVP's, 4 Stanley Cups and  894 goals.

Ovechkin now. He is a stronger version of Crosby with half the talent on his team.

  8. 1: PAST

    Goalie: Patrick Roy

    Defense: Bobby Orr

    Right Wing: Gordie Howe

    Center: Wayne Gretzky

    Left Wing: Frank Mahovlich

    2: Present

    Goalie: Martin Brodeur/Miikka Kiprusoff

    Defense: Niklas Lidstrom/Dion Phaneuf

    Right Wing: Jarome Iginla/Jaromir Jagr

    Center: Sidney Crosby/Evgeni Malkin

    Left Wing: Henrik Zetterberg/Alex Ovechkin

    Hope this helped....

  9. 1.Gretzky

    2.Joe Sakic

how is ovechkin the greatest? he has only played for 3 years. Does oveckin have over 600 goals or Joe Sakic? who has records? Who has won stanley cups?

  10. The greatest past player is easy, Bobby Orr redifined his position and the game itself with his incredible offensive and defensive skills. Injuries derailed what could have been a longer and successful career, but his talent, stats, and awards, are incredible for any player.

While most people with state that Crosby or Ovechin are the tops in the game, I really have to say by watching the Cup finals, Zetterberg is the top player in the world. His two way game is up their with the greatest I've ever witnessed, he's got soft hands behind the net, not afraid to get dirty in the corner and has a wicked shot. Not bad for a guy drafted in the seventh round. Right at this moment I'd take him as the best player in the world.

  11. 1.Maurice Richard (my personal hero)

    2.Ovechkin (or however its spelled)

  12. 1. past- wayne gretzky, gordie howe, or bobby orr.

    2. present- sidney crosby or Nicklas Lidstrom

Crosby and Lidstrom are both very smart players.  Crosby can score and gets his teamates involved with great and smart passes, which leads to a better hockey team.  Ovechkin is good, but a great player makes his teammates better, like Crosby and Lidstrom do.

  13. 1. steve yzerman

    2. chris osgood for goalie and nick lidstrom for defense

    my standard answers =P

  14. 1) Mario Lemieux.

    2) Gotta go Ovechkin or Zetterberg

I think Zetterberg would get more props if he wasn't injured as much and wasn't on the Wings...

if you seriously look at his stats since AO and Crosby came in... he's right up there in goals.

  15. Past

Forward - Gretzky. No one else has ever compared to him

Defense - Scott Stevens. Ok so hes not so past but he doesnt play anymore so he counts

    Goalie - Patrick Roy

    Present

    Forward -Ovechkin or Sidney Crosby

Defense - Nick Lidstrom as much as I hate to admit it

Goalie - Martin Brodeur hands down

  16. Wayne Gretzky, Marice "Rocket" Richard, Sydney Crosby.

  17. Past.......

    Forward...Gretzky or Howe

    Defense...Bobby Orr

    Goalie...Patrick Roy or Sawchuk

    Present...

Forward...Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby , Zetterberg, Datsyuk

    Defense...Zdeno Chara or Nick Lidstrom

Goalie...Marty Brodeur, Henrik Lundquist, or Giguere

  18. Past

    1.   Wayne Gretzky

    2.   Mario Lemieux

    3.   Bobby Orr

    Current

    1.   Sidney Crosby

    2.   Alex Ovechkin

    3.   Jerome Iginla

  19. 1) Gretzky

    2) Lidstrom

  20. these are the past player i like but never seen them play but i know about them.

    Phil Esposito

Paul henderson(who scored for canada the winning goal)

Tim Horton we won't have Tim Horton donuts if he did exist lol

    present

    Ovechkin 60 goals

    Crosby

Miroslav Satan used to love to watch him play the leafs when he was with buffalo.

  21. Past

    Goalie - Mike Richter

    Forwards - Mark Messier

                       Wayne Gretzky

                       Gordie Howe

    Present

    Goalie - Henrik Lundqvist

    Forwards -  Brendan Shanahan

                         Scott Gomez

                         Sean Avery

  22. past without a dought gordie howe power and grace.2 wayne gretzky smooth and deadly.  now playing iginla calgary, crosby pits, ovechien caps, too name a few.

  23. Past:  Number 4 Bobby Orr! Greatest Defenceman ever, Canadian, and the inventer of the End to End rush

Present:  Sidney Crosby, arguably the best but only agured by people who wish they were him. He has talent, class, and he's just an amazing hockey player

  24. I'll be boring: Gretzky (with Lemieux very close behind... he would have been the best if he had the years).

For the present:  Joe Thornton... with Iginla really close.

  25. Obviously Wayne Greztky, thats why he leads in almost every stat in the league not pertaining to goalies.

Now: Pavel Datsyuk, everyone goes for Ovie or Crosby because they are the most popular good players. Datsyuk is the best in the league because he is so versatile. I think people over look him.

  26. Past= Maurice Richard and for defense Bobby Orr.

Present= Ovechkin and for defense Nik Lidstrom

  27. Past - Wayne Gretzky

    Present - Ovechkin

  28. There is a difference between the greatest hockey player, and the best hockey player.

Greatest all time in for me would have to be..

    Past: Bobby Orr.

He revolutionized the game, especially for defenceman.

Only defenseman to ever lead the league in scoring, and he did it twice! 1969-1970, 1975-1975

Highest plus minus ever in a season at +124! Which is utterly ridiculous

Once had 139 points in a season, and keep in mind he was  a defenseman.

Imagine if his career did end early, and lets say he played forward, he then would of been the greatest, and the BEST hockey player of all time.

Present: Toss up between Sidney Crosby, and Alex Overchkin, hands down.

  29. Oh, that's easy..........Wayne Crosby.

    No, that's not it..........Sidney Gretzky.

Dag, that ain't it either. All I know is it's the guy who EARNED the nickname "The Greatest" after a handful of Stanley Cup championships, and many Art Ross Trophies, Hart Trophies, and so on and so forth.

    Got it! Wayne Gretzky.

  30. 1. without a doubt wayne gretzky. he was the best ever. no one coould stop him from scoring. he has the trophies and records to prove it too.

    2. i have to say alex ovechkin. he is very tough and he scores a lot. sooner or later he's gonna win the cup.

  31. 1. "Mr. Hockey" Gordie Howe

    2. Alexander Ovechkin "Mr. 60 goals"
