im on my schools jv team and am pretty good but i dont really know any famous volleyball players.... and what types of players are they

That depends Karch was a great player for many years in the 80s and early 90s now the game has changed there are many up and coming players from all over the world specially indoor players.

Greatest Male volleyball player of all time - Karch Kiraly.  Best Beach player of all time - Karch Kiraly.  Good players you should watch on today's games - on the beach (AVP) - Todd Rodgers.  One of the best all around beach players in the world, plus he is "normal height" (about 6'3").  Casey Jennings, Stein Metzger, Mike Lambert, Phil Dalhauser, Jack Gibb, Sean Rosenthal and the ladies you should watch - Misty May, and Kerri Walsh.

For some indoor players you might want to follow - Clay Stanley, Lloy Ball, Sean Rooney, Reid Priddy, Riley Salmon, and any men from the USA National team.  Go to usavolleyball.org to follow the US National Programs.

The best Partner in a pinch: Singin Smith

The best Spiker: believe it or not,I saw this guy spike when i was 11 years old back in 1972,NBA star,Wilt Chamberlain.Wilt owned the net,and he loved playing on sand because it was good for his beat up knees.You rarely saw anyone return or block his powerful spikes.

The best setter :Bill Stetson,...Bill is the only setter that was allowed to "one hand"set only because he could, and the refs could not find a "hold" or "rotation" violation on his set.

Karch Kiraly is the best ever. It's true that the indoor game has changed in the last ten years or so. But, as far as the way the game was played when he played, there was no one better than him as an all-around player. The best spiker I've ever seen was Brazil's Marcelo Negron. His hits were so incredibly powerful that it's not even funny.
