  1. Washington

    Jefferson

    Lincoln

    Teddy Roosevelt

    Wilson

    FDR

    Bill Clinton

    were all great

To the person who said Rutherford B. Hayes:  I suggest you get a history lesson because he set our country back a century when it comes to civil rights.  The Compromise of 1877 ended Reconstruction after the Civil War and allowed for the rise of the KKK and segregation in southern schools.  So no, I don't agree with you that he was a great president.

  2. Ronald W. Reagan!  'Nuff said!

  3. the late Ronald Reagan

  4. Ronald Reagan had to be our best.  The worst would be Jimmy Carter with LBJ running just behind him.

  5. Thomas Jefferson hands down.

  6. FDR...... an old-school democrat with GUTS!

  7. I think Clinton held it pretty well.

  8. Thomas Jefferson. He paid off the National debt while protecting our freedoms and expanding into the west with the Louisiana purchase.

  9. JFK because he didn't think the government should have so many secrets or a private bank printing our money.  Plus he took a bullet for it, when he must have known it was coming.

  10. Thomas Jefferson did NOT erase the national debt while in office. In fact, the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 doubled or tripled the size of the national debt (a majority of which, at that time, consisted of debts from the Revolution).

The only president serve at a time when the debt equaled zero was Andrew Jackson. The debt was erased shortly before he left office in 1837.

Answering the question, I would agree that Lincoln is this nation's greatest president, followed by FDR. Washington should not be too far down the list, however, considering the solid foundation he took the lead in building not only for the office of president but the US government as well.

  11. best, george washington and tom jefferson.  worst, lincoln and fdr

  12. Obviously Roosevelt. The last one that is. Teddy was an imperialist.

  13. coolidge--> best government is the one that governs least!\

    or reagan !

  14. I'll go with George Washington.

Apparently the YAers listing Ronald Reagan forgot (or weren't born then):

The Iran/Contra illegal arms sales scandal, the Savings & Loan melt down bail-out scandal, the extreme leverage buy-out practices that took over companies, fired all of the employees and liquidated the assets (hundreds of thousands lost their jobs and retirement life savings).

Double-digit inflation and high interest rates.

Ron was a likable guy, but he delegated important issues to the wolves in charge of the hen houses.

    Short memories.

  15. Rutherford B. Hayes.

Know why? Because nobody remembers him or his administration. If you become that obscure then at least you didn't s***w things up. What better legacy is there than that?

  16. Lincoln...then Bush!

  17. Washington

    Lincoln

    Jefferson

    Reagan
