  3. Neil Jenkins set the record a few years back. It may well be beaten soon though, they play so many more internationals these days than before professionalism.

  4. Neil Jenkins (Wales & Lions

  5. Neil Jenkins - the Ginger Monster

    Born:08 JUL 1971

    Place of Birth: Church Village

No game featuring Jenkins was complete without his brother-in-law donning a ginger wig and plastic ears, kicking an inflatable sheep over the crossbar.

One of the true giants of Welsh rugby, Neil Jenkins became the international scene's record points scorer despite playing during Wales's wilderness years, all the more incredible when he played behind such a weak side.

Affectionately labelled the Ginger Monster he is Wales's most capped player ever and the current world record holder for points scored in internationals, with 1,049 points for Wales and a further 41 in four tests for the British Lions.

Jenkins has remained an almost permanent fixture in the Welsh team since his debut against England in 1991, though he has on occasion been criticised and dropped for failing to fit the image of the legends who previously wore the Welsh number 10 shirt.

But his grit, stamina and determination have become symbols of the Welsh side of the past decade, and the team without Jenkins has been described as like Eastenders without Pauline Fowler.

Jenks played a key role in Pontypridd's success in the mid-1990s, helping the Valleys club win the league title and the Principality Cup.

A search for greater challenges led to a move to Cardiff, although his time in the capital was marked by injury problems.

Unable to regain his place in the team, Jenkins returned to Sardis Road to boost the Pontypridd cause in domestic and European competitions.

In May 2003 he announced his retirement from the international scene, but played a year of regional rugby for the now-defunct Celtic Warriors before hanging up his boots.

When playing with the Lions in South Africa in 1997, Jenkins switched positions to fullback and booted the Lions to a memorable epic 2-1 series win

One of the most under rated players of all time, yet easily one of the greatest.

  6. Neil Jenkins (Wales & The Lions)

  7. Wales flyhalf Neil Jenkins is the all-time leading points scorer in Test rugby and his country's most capped player. He scored 1,049 points in 87 internationals
