  1. THomas Jefferson or Benjamin Franklin.  They were both instrumental in establishing the US as a nation, as well as maintaining international relations.  Both also are attributed with numerous inventions/constructions, and scholarly works.

  2. I think that is almost impossible to answer this question. To choose one as THE most important is extremely difficult.Columbus "discovered" America or at least exposed her to the rest of the world. Without him would we have advanced as far as we have today? What about all the colonists who came and stuck it out through the hard winters and the vicious attacks from many of the Indians. What if they had given up and gone home? What about the 56 men who signed the declaration and were willing to sacrifice their lives for freedom? Washington was the father of our country. He led our soldiers through the Revolutionary War. Without him could we have won? And James Madison who drafted most of the Constitution.Where would we be without the law to guide us? What about Lincoln holding the country together during the Civil War or Roosevelt bringing us out of the depression and into one of the most wealthiest periods of our time. What about people like Jackie Robinson, Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. standing up for the African American? How different would our world be if we were still stuck in the rut of racism and worst, slavery.

How could you possibly choose one person? It's like the pieces of a puzzle. Without all of them the puzzle is useless. How can you choose which is the most important? They are all essential to making the picture complete.
