In an island, there are three local inhabitants there, the knight, the knave and the humble servant. There are no differences between them when it comes to physical characteristics, which means they all look alike. But they each differ when it comes to telling the truth. The knight always tells the truth. The knave always tells lies. The humble servant alternately tells the truth and tells a lie. Their names are Mr. Knight, Mr. Knave and Mr. Humble Servant. But that doesn't mean that Mr.Knight is the knight, or Mr. Knave is the knave, and Mr. Humble Servant is the humble servant, their names may refer to other different persons.

Now, you're a traveler and happened to be in this island. You decided to talk to Mr. Humble Servant, but you don't have any idea if he's a knight, knave or humble servant.

You asked, "Mr. Humble Servant, are you the humble servant?"

He replied, "Yes."

You asked another, "Then Mr. Knave is the knave? "

Mr. Humble Servant replied, "Yes, too."

You asked lastly, "Then Mr. Knight is the knight?"

The man replied, "Of course."

So, who is the knight..???

  1. Ohh this one was fun to figure out. Well since the humble servent tells a lie, then a truth, we know that mr. humble servent can't be the humble servent because either

    1. he lied about the first and third statement ( this has to be it)or b. he lied only about the second statement which isn't possible.

he can't be the knight because he didn't tell the truth

so he must be the knave

and since he is the knave, and he lied about the last two statements, Mr. knight ias the humble servent and Mr. knave is the knight.

and i admit, i looked at the answeres that were already there, but they didn't help. haha i was so confused for a while, but i figured it out by myself =]

  2. We know Mr Humble Servant isn't the knight, because he said that Mr Knight is.  If Mr Humble Servant were the knight he would have had to say so.  So Mr Humble Servant is either the humble servant or the knave.  If he's the humble servant then the first and third statements must be true.  He starts off by saying that he is the humble servant which, if he is the humble servant, would obviously be true.  And if he alternates between truth and lies then the third statement must also be true.  But if that were the case, then the only role left for Mr Knave would be the knave, which would make the second statement true.  And the humble servant does not make consecutive true statements.  So Mr Humble Servant is not the humble servant.

So Mr Humble Servant must be the knave.  And since we now know all the statements are false, we can easily deduce that Mr Knave is the knight and Mr Knight is the humble servant.
