Who is the last player you thought was "the next big thing" and they never lived up to the hype?

I really thought John Rocker was gonna be a great pitcher before he made all those comments.

    but im seeing Clay Buccholz he pitched a no-hitter then a star now a seadog but hey who knows he might have a "cliff-Lee-like-story"

  6. definatly mark prior in recent memory. Shane Spencer fell off the map pretty quickly. Rick Ankiel lost it ,at least pitching, like something I aint neva seen

  7. Matt Morris was supposed to be the next Randy Johnson, and he had one good season with 22 wins, but besides that he had nothing but problems.

  9. Phil Hughes. Had a few good games but before the yankees couldn't wait to call him up and now they chose pavano over hughes to go to the majors.

  10. i have no idea why anyone would say MARK PRIOR. yes he has lost 2 and a half seasons and possibly his career but to say he NEVER lived up to the hype is upsard. he lived up to the hype but he didn't continue it.

  14. Matt Anderson. He was projected to be a top star at the MLB level and has done nothing. He has 15 wins and 7 loses and a career ERA of 5.19 and only 224 K's. He has truly not lived up to the hype. He has a great fastball that reached 103 mph. He had so much talent but lost it due to injuries.

The Atlanta Braves had seriously considered using their No. 1 overall selection on the highly touted pitcher. But because of concerns about his signability, the team opted instead to take shortstop Chipper Jones.
