I'm not sure I quite understand the question, but...

There are a lot of brands of marine engines, here are some of the more common ones:

Evinrude

Yamaha

Mercury

Detroit Diesel

Keep in mind that many engines (both gas and diesel) can be converted to a marine engine so the brand names could be almost limitless.

Volvo has a complete line of diesel engines, I like Perkins myself.   Yanmar has several models to choose from.  Even John Deere has a line of marine engines but I don't know the smallest.

your question is a little hard to understand, are you asking if "Sail boat" is a brand name by it's self ?  the answer is no.. if your looking at an ad that say's something like; ( I have a 5hp sail boat motor for sale/trade ) it would mean that they have a 5hp motor by an unnamed co. you would have to ask the Name brand of the motor in question ie: Johnson, Evinrude, etc... and just in case you see someone saying they have a "Kicker" motor that is not a name brand either, a kicker motor is a secondary motor ( normaly much smaller hp rating) that is used to putt around over short distance's rather then using the main (gas chugging) larger hp motor.

their are many motors,is yours inboard,outboard, direct drive?or do you use a paddle?
