he is his own mentor .You see he comes from a small town in Ranchi where there is no basic cricket facilities available,the street children play cricket in a manner in which 20-20 cricket is played umpires are biased and if u lose ur temper u can be not allowed to play any longer dhoni has used this same approach to international cricket and has got success but u have to say luck also played a great role but never mind as the saying goes-"MAKE HAY WHILE THE SUN SHINES".

He has been a Mature player from his Debut and lot of people never noticed until he became captain in ICC T20WC. Did really Good and won the championship. and Every one start to notice him and media put him a little bit , but his Cool temperament has always been there since from the first day of his career. overall he is a Very sensible and Mature Player and have lot of Game spirit  and Skills to be a really good captain for long time. I dont think there is any mentor of Dhoni, he seems to have a great, cool, calm, composed, and productive mind. He knows most of the time, what he need to do, what he need to speak and where he is moving. In nut shell, we can say he has a great common sense!!!.
