Who is the most likely to finish second in the Formula 1 2011 drivers’ championship?
The 2011 Formula 1 season has been a one sided race as Red Bull Racing team has developed an outstanding innovative car for their team which helped Sebastian Vettel in dominating the drivers’ standings up until now.
Since there are just 5 more races left, Vettel is 124 points ahead of his closest rival that is Jenson Button as a result of which catching up with the reigning world champion is now pretty much impossible.
He has had an outstanding 2011 Formula 1 season and this time, he has proved that he really is a Formula 1 world champion keeping in mind that he has been criticised a lot since 2010.
His race strategy however has not changed much still as he is still reliant a lot on his qualifying performance and scoring a good racing performance from the mid-field is still not so easy for him compared to how Fernando Alonso or Lewis Hamilton are.
Behind Vettel in the drivers’ standings, Jenson Button, Mark Webber, Fernando Alonso, and Lewis Hamilton are struggling to find pace but they are equally matched in terms of statistics as they are divided by just 17 points.
Jenson Button is currently in 2nd place in the drivers’ standings with 185 points while his teammate Lewis Hamilton is in 5th place with 168 points.
Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso on the other hand are in 4th and 3rd places with 182 and 184 points respectively. Since the drivers’ championship is over now, it seems that the battle for a 2nd place in
the drivers’ standings is on.
There are still 5 races left in the season and it seems that the competition is quite tough since the 4 drivers competing for the 2nd place are very competitive and experienced as well.
Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton are aggressive while Mark Webber and Jenson Button are a little more conservative as a result of which predicting something about this battle might not be possible anytime soon.
Hamilton has the ability to score extraordinary results in very complicated situations as well but his problem is that he disables himself from scoring a good result in simple and dominant situations.
Fernando Alonso is the safest pick in this battle as he has pace, consistency and experience. He has been scoring some pretty good results since the past couple of races and it is quite clear that taking on him is like taking on a mind-reader.
Mark Webber has the best car out of these 4 drivers but he has not been able to make the most of it since the beginning of the 2011 Formula 1 season. He is the only driver in the top five who has not won a single race this season up until now.
Lastly, Jenson Button has been doing a fine job and he is very consistent but his problem is that he does not have the ability to take risks and at times, he is a bit too safe.
As a result, the safest pick would be Fernando Alonso but anything can happen in Formula 1 and the upcoming 5 races are quite unpredictable as well.
